    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Husky newbie intro & advice

Hey all, as i said in the intro thread, I'm Mick from Australia.
I've been on bikes, be that road, dirt, two or four wheels for the majority of my life, and up until now, I've have very little to do with Huskies. Nothing in fact, Until last Thursday when i bought one.

I'd been on the lookout for a 530exc for a while, and my local dealer called me up to say he had two bikes in there he thought I might be interested in. an 08' 530, and an 07 TE510. I rode my old ZR550 in, test rode both back to back, and rode home on a 4300klm TE, mostly standard, with a bash plate, radiator guards and an ASV clutch lever.

It felt a little rough compared to the KTM, but I definitely preferred the ride and power delivery. The only issue is, I know very little about this model! What are some things i should be on the look out for? do they have any common reoccurring problems? typical maintenance i would assume to be oil and filter every 5 hours, air filter after every run in dirt, and valve clearance every 15 hours? I'm familiar with the KTM setup for adjusting valves, is there a step by step guide somewhere?

My intention was to use the bike on enduro runs, and on the odd occasion motard. Is it possible to use KTM wheels?

What are some easy ways to unplug it for a few extra horses from factory? I noticed when i got it home what looks like the sides of the airbox have been removed, is this something that's not recommended, or common place?

Who are common suppliers for graphics? I've looked around but most are blazoned with skulls and what not, which isn't really my style. I would eventually like to get a set of plastics (probably UFO) and put some tasteful graphics on it.

I'd love to post some pics of it, but unfortunately, when i got it home, the dealer had sold it with a faulty speed sensor, so it's gone back in today for a replacement, an to go over the bike once again.

How long does it take to get used to that rear disk clanging away?!?!
 
That faulty speed sensor has quickly turned in to a faulty dash, which they will be replacing with an aftermarket unit. Along with the wheel bearings, rear disk, water pump cover gasket, and radiator mount bolt. Funny that all of these things became an issue 30 klms after the dealership provided a roadworthy certificate. As long as it doesn't cost me a penny, I can live with it.
 
Why would you put KTM wheels on a Husky? Remember when you say Husky's it's Husky's not Huskies!! The Husky comes with top shelf excel rims. If you search around this website you can find alot of answers to your questions!! Good job buyinf a Husqvarna. Once you get her dialed in, I doubt you will ever be a pumpkin head again!
 
Motard wheels seem to be more readily available for KTM's, which is why I ask. I thought the plural for Husky was Huskies? Am finding some very helpful tips by searching along the way :)
 
hi mick, i owned a 510 for 3yrs good solid bike smooth power delivery. oil change and valve check every 16hrs,, don't worry about the floating rear disc rattle you will get use to it. the only thing i needed to replace was the starter motor clutch.!!
 
Cheers big d, I've only put about a half an hour on it so far, but what i've done has been enjoyable, crack of the throttle in third and the front will lift as long as you ask it to. Can't wait to get it on dirt. Was planning on going for a ride this afternoon, but dinner and drinks last night turned into drinks and drinks, and now my head is sore.
