What's missing here???
OK guys, had a bit of a "T" fitting mishap which led to premature clutch failure, left me fresh out of coolant and sputtering, smoking my way back to the truck with my tail tucked between my legs... Being the preventative-maintenance kind of guy that I am, I decided that I should really have a looky-loo and get the low-down on the real-poo. Aside from scorching my oil (and without having split the case), it doesn't appear that any real damage was done except for the piston and some scoring on the cylinder:
Have a few questions for the collective CH brain trust. I've been doing a bit of poking around reading various threads about compression ratio and thicker head gaskets vs. shaving the piston, upgrading the water pump, etc... (By the way, that Foolproof Cam Timing thread is brilliant!). Curious, since I've got my bitch torn-down, what if any reasonable upgrades I should make before slapping her back together.
I know I need a new piston, head gasket, etc... Not sure whether I can salvage the cylinder (really doesn't look / feel that bad - hand hone??)
Any and all feed-back would be great and appreciated!
One caveat - like most the economy has put a dent in my 'fun money' reserves. My number one priority is to get up and running, but if I can make any reasonable upgrades in the process I will. Not interested in wasting $$ on gismos or bling!
Muchas gracias todos!!
