  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is it worth me getting my husky sm 125 porter ?

I'm just getting a replate as we speak, and have been offered to get cylinder head, cylinder and pv to have work done to them, going to cost me £150, is it worth the money, will it bring my bike on par with husky cr ?? As I know the sm cylinder is slightly diffrent I'm told.

Sm cylinder is retard by 2mm. Porting alone will not help, you need to skim the top of the barrel and regroove the oring seat.

par with a CR needs another carb, reeds, exhaust, ignition.

replating is in progress so more or less to late to send it of to walt to make it a 165

yet you would also need the above listed items

That is worth doing it

in your position replate it and leave it stock till you have the commitment to all the above changes and go for a 165

that would makes it a truly a fun bike

I think nobody ever tried to run a 165 WRE Cylinder... the problem is the transfer ports will be even lower when the big bore job is done...
I m planning to do this conversion though.
But not sure when as i m busy with my own 165cc conversion based on a CR barrel.
Best would be to get the bigger carb and cr/wr exhaust first.
But it would be intresting to see what porting will do to a WRE cylinder.
If you are going the porting route please let us know the difference.

Have all the items at hand its the time I am missing here to put it together (a bit the down side in being successfull what i am doing)

but the cylinder is also based on a CR one

I like to clean up the ports and polish the exhaust port. But don't over do it on a 125. I did a cr125 older Honda and I ended up with all the power band being narrow mostly at the top end. It was like a light switch we just hung on to it when it hit.
It wasn't for a beginner. The bike ate 250's.

In response to the initial question. No, it's probably not worth porting. Not unless they can raise the ports be 2 or 3mm (might be a bit difficult running into water jackets etc.) The best way to get a performance increase out of the WRE (aside from swapping the cylinder for a CR or WR unit) is to get a base spacer machined up to lift the cylinder to correct to retarded port timing! This will be a more cost effective used of your money. You will need to get you head skimmed & machined to correct your adjusted squish & compression ratio!
If anyone know's better please feel free to correct me on this one!

Hope this helps
