• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How to remove the lower Eye Heim Joint from an Ohlins ?

1982 XC 430

Husqvarna
AA Class
This would be an early Single Shock Ohlins. I need to take the Mount off the Shaft. It looks easy enough I have just never done it before. Since its been on there for some 30 years it will probably need some heat. There must be a lock nut but where ? There is the black ball looking thing that spins easy enough but doesn't go anywhere hiding whatever is underneath it. The Aluminum side has two holes in it for a Spanner Wrench. The Heim Joint end can go in a Vise easy enough. But now what, I hope to avoid the Pipe Wrench and Cutting Torch.

Get a Ohlins single shock workshop manual and familiarize yourself with the shock and how to service/disassemble it before you damage components that are no longer available. The black knob on the lower shaft is a re-bound compression adjuster and it sounds like you have spun it out of it's original setting, not good.

OK so the Black Ball looking thing is the rebound dampening adjustment. The Aluminum part must be the Lock Nut, once it is loose then You must Grip the Shaft itself to twist off the Heim Joint.

It was just like I thought. Once the Aluminum part was Heated the Locktite let go and it came loose. One of my Pee Grinder Wrench's fit the Two Holes just fine. Then I made a Shaft Holding Tool to fit the Vise and with that held the Heim Joint Screwed right off.

Are you doing a full rebuild?
I have 1 to do on my 86 also.
I will order a kit soon, but never done one before.

This Shock was just rebuilt by WER. Turns out the Swing Arm I was going to use is not going to work out, and now I need to change the lower Heim Joint. No this is not a Husqvarna, its one of those German ones.
