  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

how long do you get from your wheel bearings ?

there is a bit of play in my fronts after only 600klms(360 miles ish ? ) max ! i wouldnt consider this to be good from the main dealer supplied and fitted when i bought it but as they are cheap, i'll replace them anyway... what do you get from yours on forest/trail riding only ?
 
On my 02 CR250 I get ~3 years worth of riding at least on single track on the fronts...No sure of the miles but we only ride 4-5 months of the year due to bad weather and this is usually 1 day a week...This has to be several times more miles than you stated here...Probably 25-40 miles per ride only but some of the stuff we ride in is ~gnarly so the wheels take a beating...
 
Still on the original front and rears. Over 300 hrs & ~7300kms of all types of riding, incl. many thousands of water holes, mud holes, fire roads, hwys, technical singletrack etc.

have you checked them? i checked both at about 500 miles and the rear was toast and the front was close to toast.
 
mine lasted about 6-7 months. not sure how many miles. i cleaned and repacked them in the spring and this fall they needed replaced.

well 1 needed replaced and the other one still felt fine so i kept it for a spare.
 
thats pretty amazing longevity some of you guys get. i reckon i replace mine at least every 25 hours. especially the rears.

i only race the bike if that makes a difference and because i use mousses in the tires i dont care about banging through rocks and roots. also the terrain is usually always wet or muddy so it doesnt help.

bearing cost doesnt seem to make any difference dear or expensive they all seem to last the same.

25 hours? Do they have slack or wobble in them? Or are you just repalcing to replace? I'm not sure about the different bearings either. My OEM bearing for my 02 Husky lasted quite a while...I have the all-balls or something brand in them now...

Maybe I can be UR bearing dealer? ;) We'll set you up and a weekly schedule :) as we don't you to loose any thing from any friction that might be building up after the wheel as spun more that a dozen times...

You can pick the plastic seals off with a razor blade and clean
the grease out of the bearing with contact cleaner, and repack
with synthetic or water proof grease and reinstall the plastic seals
for longevity in wet riding conditions.
 
i pre packed the rears but the dealer said he done mine before i got it but i never checked them.. anyway, will do them over the holibags !

Yep, many times & everything is still good. I'm a bit fussy when it comes to maintaining my bike and making sure it's always ready to go.

haha well in the type of terrain thats the how long they last. i replace them just as they start to be able to be rocked
