• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How is Pala Raceway for spectating?

Droolsport

Husqvarna
A Class
Thinking about making the trip out for the race and just wondered if its a good spectator track? Doesnt seem to have the elevation around it that lets you sit and see large sections of track like Glen Helen or ThunderValley.

they use the hill in the course and it does help for viewing. If you sit high in the finish line bleachers you can get a good view. Also from the hill set up near the first turn, plus last year they had a pool with wahinis frolicking around.....wait we are here for the nat!! the best thing about mx is how close you be next to the track and feel the ground shake as those guys blast around.

thanks Robert, I agree its something you have to see in person. TV doesnt do them justice. If Dungey keeps it close after SteelCity I want to see the last race and watch RD and RV go at it. Imagine being on the fence and watch the final pass that determines the MX champion!

It is relatively flat, but easy to navigate- at least it was last year....might be a bunch more people there this 2nd year hosted at PALA. The view is awesome from atop the Makita Observation scissor lift!

Several buds that went last year reported that the drive in ( 6 miles or so from 15 freeeway) is horrendous. It can be busy as hell on a sunday just with normal Pala Casino traffic.. a slow crawl back to the 15....

If you can camp that is the way to do it. Or book a room at the Casino and take a shuttle up.

Back in the 60's we took my friends roofing truck (scissor lift) to Riverside Raceway to watch the big Stock Cars race. It was cool until one guy awoke in his chair atop the truck at an exciting moment and didn't realize how close to the edge he was (nor how drunk) and over he went. He was like Gumby, fortunately.

Last year is was super easy to get around and see lots of sections of the track. The traffic was terrible, but here is the secret, come in from the Escondido side. That way you approach the track from the east side and there is practically no traffic that direction. It was easily worth the extra distance. Basically it is: Escondido, east on Valley Parkway (10mi), in Valley Center turn left (west) on Cole Grade Rd(5mi). That will dead end into Hwy 76, turn left (west) and the track will be about 4 miles on the right.

Maybe they got a late start? I came down from Riverside, no problem at all, but I have heard horror stories from others too. Looks like Poto has this one wrapped up this year....
