  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How hard to duel sport a 2011 TXC 511?

I have a line on a 2011 txc 511 with 6 total hours on it for $3800. I wanted a duel sport /adventure bike. In washington state where i live you can plate any bike. Was possibly thinking of doing that to this bike if I picked it up.
Just wanted opinions on if it would be a pain, would it be not the right bike etc etc?

If it's an e-start model, it's as easy as buying the lights and reflectors, hanging them on the bike, and wiring it all up. If it were me doing it I'd probably take the bike pretty far apart and do it right, taking a long day or a weekend at a relaxed pace. Then go to a dealer to have it inspected for "safety conformity." You'll receive a note to take to the DMV so you can get your plate and registration.

I don't know if the TXC's have an odo/speedo, if not you might want to look at the offerings from TrailTech, I saw a couple of pretty cool dashes from them at the BMW MOA national rally last weekend.

You might also poke around in the Bill's Motorcycles section here, I know that they did some "plate conversions" on a few TXC's last year.

Yeah it has the button.
Rode a friends 2011 450 last year and absolutely loved it from the word go. Then i saw the possible deal on this 511

How much street? It makes a good DS bike but the trans is a little tight. Gear it up to cruz 70 and it has a hard time with technical stuff. Gear it for technical stuff and it is limited to about 60mph up top. I DS mine a lot but it is mostly to get to trail. I have a 120 mile loop from my house, pavement, gravel, trail, gravel pavement and it works great for that but it is all back roads no super slab. Really fun bike. Loves to wheelie. Personally if I were you and could afford it that to smoking of a deal to pass up.

Well i am talking like 50 percent dirt roads, 30 percent trails and maybe 20 percent pavement. No more than say 20 miles tops on pavement in one ride.
Friend wants to do the Washington backcountry route eventually. He got a KLR 650. I hate heavy bikes like that. Would consider the new 650 but saw this incredible deal and was wondering....

I'd say the 511 will be nearly perfect for that. Go get it.

Thanks motosportz you confirmed what I though. Now gotta list my FJ

On a side note I really don't get the total plummet in prices. They are awesome indestructible bikes with plenty of parts for them for years to come. Not complaining tho since it will most likely benefit me

If you want a really good dual sport kit that is simple,,not tons of wiring,,like baja designs,, go to trickdualsport.com,, dale builds the best and lightest kits on the market... I've had his kit on my honda now for 8 yrs,, not one problem ever..

Rumors are that some more TEs (lights and all) are going to be available soon....dont know about pricing

If you are down this was you are more than welcome to try mine out. As far as prices BMW dumped huge inventory on the new owner for nearly free so everything is profit for them and they just want to move the BMW based stuff out of the way. That said anyone who wants a bike like this should be grabbing one. They are great bikes regardless of what people not in the know say. Last year i rode mine for 3 days of Gifford gnarly trail (which you know what that is like) loving every minute of it and then rode it 70 miles home. There are very few bikes that could do that well.

The TXC will absolutely be a better bike for the WABDR (and OBDR) than that big pig KLR. Go light, go fast. We did it on two SM610's and a TE610 last year, and I wouldn't want to do it on anything bigger.

Without a hijack, Motosportz, how much fuel do you take/use for that "loop"? Cheers.

Thanks. I rode the 2011 450 at Taenum and absolutely loved the thing. If I run into you at belfair again i will take up on that offer.
Which gets me thinking. Main reason i got rid of my ktm525 was it was impossible to ride at belfare. It was just way to much bike for the tight stuff. I assume the 511 is alot more forgiving in the tight stuff?

My 125 is a far better choice for Belfair but i can wiggle the TE511 through there pretty fast too. I would rather ride the 511 than the 525 through the tight stuff but both are a little big for the job. Its a very good do it all bike. With a wider trans it could have been a fantastic do it all bike. Sad it did not get developed into the top of the line bike it could have been.

I love my TXC449 for Dual Sporting.
Seat Concept seat a must!
and a set of Karoos and I'm set..

Stock gearing ok for me , can hit 80 mph ( i'm a lightweight )

I like the 2 tone seat....and I agree the stock gearing is sufficient for infrequent pavement forays, but I found it will pull a 40 tooth rear surprisingly well which really drops the highway revs.

I don't know if its just me or my bike , but a friend of mine and I did some rollon racing to see whos bike pulled harder ( he had a '11 449 and now has a 511)
And mine seemed to be a lot faster than his. (after i figured how to keep the front end down.)

Going gear my up for the highway also, gots loads of power and the front end keeps coming up? whats up with that, hehehehe?
