    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

How do you keep your shrouds together?

I have raced and rode Husky 125's sice 2002....never had a problem witht he shrouds coming apart so often...I might have one here and there....but on this TE250 I have both flopped out and have broke the mounting points to the tank a few times too...not sure if it is cause the shrouds are flexed more or what...

What solutions have you guys used?

I was thinking a small bolt near the front of the shroud to bolt them together...

or some sort of trim up the front to keep branches and debris from splitting the two open...

I have heaard of zip ties from the radiator to the shroud....

Here is what I did on my 06 TE450, I used threaded inserts with the aluminum hex head screws, sourced from road race/street fairing guys/companies. They worked very well and there was a color choice of anodized fasteners.

that is what I was thinking....I have some from a street fighter project a few years ago...thats roberto
 
On my 08 I just put pieces gorilla tape at the split between the upper and lower gap to keep stuff from getting in between the shrouds and popping out the tab. Its not very noticable Its black ultra strong "duct" tape
 
This may not meet most peoples ascetic requirements but it has worked for me. I installed radiator braces which created a fitment problem with the stock shrouds (I also have an IMS 3-gallon tank). I made my own shrouds by cutting a heavy duty mud flap to shape. The whole affair
sticks out less and has never been damaged. The stock shroud does transfer blows to the radiator. No cooling issues have resulted, it might even ram more air in there.

Is that a ProMotoBillet kickstand or.......? I see you've got it leaning against the guardrail. Nice idea for you lower shrouds.
 
I'm amazed that none of the plastics companies have made a one piece upper/lower fairing option yet.

My rad shroud upper tabs wouldn't stay "tucked" and only street riding. I cut 4 pieces of aluminum 1" long X 1/2" wide X 1/8" thick, drilled & tapped 6mm holes on 3/4" centers. Discarded the oem retaining clips. This set-up moved my shrouds 3/4" higher (where they should have been to begin with). It looks like Husky is doing a better job with plastic fitment on the newer models.:applause:

I am too, it's brilliant and probably very durable without transferring impact damage to the rads. I recently destroyed my right "conveyor" somehow, and although it's only $12 to replace, I feel the heavy rubber shown above would work and hold up much better when I lose talent:busted: Another reason for me is that the conveyors on both sides don't fit under the upper shrouds with the IMS tank. Not a huge deal for me because the tank is otherwise awesome but, still a contributing factor to go with the mudflap conversion!
 
Thanks. They don't have to be super heavy duty (personal choice). i used a thicker pair of Kragen cheapies. They are reinforced with fiberglass. Someone might come up with a better source material, but flaps are meant to be tough and are readilly available in the mean time.

Ioneater, that is a Promoto Billit with a bit of a bastardization story behind it.
 
Well, thanks to Thunderpaw's idea for lower shrouds I got the itch to try the mudflap style myself tonight. $22 for a set of Plasticolor fiber reinforced flaps at O'Reilly's. I made a quick pattern from thick paper and proceeded to chop away. Mine won't work as well for airflow due to a different style of tank and using stock upper shrouds that stick WAY out now. I'm thinking about making some sort of quick disconnect lightweight cable retention straps to go from near the tip of the upper shrouds to somewhere near top of rad braces or something.... Those shrouds are easy prey for the trail if I don't do something. Here are a few pics...

Here's what happens when the stock conveyors take a hit from the side using BPD braces. Note the conveyors are bolted directly to the radiators and transfer any impact to them via those small mounting tabs on the rads.

That was my main reason to go with flaps, allows the braces to provide the protection they were designed for.
 
I haven't had too many issues with this... I have used gorilla tape- that's about it: decreases Twig'N'Leaf collection. I once slammed into a tree pretty squarely with a radiator/ fork tube/ headlight... killed the blinkers and tore the upper shroud a bit, lower shroud came partially off- simply rebolted back on. Expected destruction... it happens. I have hit lots of various trees- that was the only time any noticable damage occurred that I recall

ioneater; I see in your picture that some of the little "tabs" in your radiator are bent or squished. I have this damage too, only a little more so. Is this really bad? My bike runs fine and doesnt get hot, so does that mean it will be fine?
