• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How do YOU(and your bike) tow someone?

A friend needed a tow the other day and on my KTM 450 I coudn't really find a good anchor point to tow from. I ended up looping around the bracket for the exhaust but after a couple of miles it melted the strap.
I don't see where else I could connect to (and this looks the same for my TE310 as well). With the subframes being hidden it's getting hard to find a spot to use.
I've heard of towing footpeg to footpeg but I've never tried it and it sounds kinda gnarly.

Any thought or ideas?

I'm sorry I was think hook up point. I'm assuming it wouldn't fit through the grab handle spot...just stop riding with KTM's lol

May sound crazy but you could attach to the bar mount and then run it under your seat. I'm sure the seat would still close.

I have a lift strap on my rear that i use to attach a strap from (I'm towing) and used this to attach through the triple clamps of the towee...luckily it was flat and I have a rekluse...less than 1 km

Footpeg to footpeg, definitely. I've done plenty of towing, and it works great every time.

A nice trick is to just wrap the tow strap once and step on it, that way if something happens you just lift your foot and you're detached.

You've never had it get wrapped up in the tire doing it that way?

This is the most commonly mentioned method. You might practice it a little but it makes sense and seems a bit safer ....

I have tow straps on both my bikes

"Yes, the rope did get wrapped up in the tire a couple times.
I had a loop around my peg and he had his wrapped around the peg so as to lift a foot to get loose.
Footpeg to footpeg is a pain but we haven't found a better way."

That trail looked great! I have to admit; if you could tow that way on those trails then I should be able to do it too-thanks!

I do foot peg to center of handle bar of the towed bike. One wrap around the handlebar and hold the rope end on the grip and let go to get free. Does not get tangled up in the wheels this way.

When i was 14 and my older brother was 18(he happened to race expert class mx at the time) i broke down in the boonies once. We didnt have any ropes. So he pointed me in the direction of home and proceeded to "push" me with his foot at the time. Yes he was a maniac. Thankfully at the time it was mainly gravel rds and few trails to get home. Sometimes I miss being a crazy careless teenager. Sometimes that is-lol

You can push a bike using your foot on the muffler or the back of the swingarm, works well but it's definitely some effort required, I wouldn't want to do it for miles!

It's too bad we didn't get vid of climbing the hills.
Lots of spinning, pushing, sweating and swearing.
Don't think you could do it with the foot pushing.
Well maybe Chuck Norris could.
Downhills were fun, remove the rope and coast.

I remember going into a giant hole on a creek crossing that completely submarined my XR250. We couldn't get it started. My buddy pulled me back in the dark through miles of super hilly trails on his Warrior. I remember being exhausted from all the jerking & tugging. I had the strap around my bars looped so I could let it go.

The foot peg to handle bar might be a good idea for me to tow my son. He broke the nipple for his petcock last weekend when he went down in a large puddle. I'm glad we were able to baby it back the 6 miles by filling the carb every half mile. I didn't have a strap but will tomorrow.

I showed him your video Fast, he said his dive in the puddle looked the same as your mates.

Yea, the foot pushing is super exhausting but if you dont have a rope its better than nothing. Foot,,, check... Broken bike,,,, check. See, its hard to forget these 2 things.

I do it foot peg - to foot peg works well . ( side by side on slightly in front of the other about 8 feet long rope) Make a loop in the end of the rope ready to slip over the peg . My little 125 has pulled a couple of TE 450s home :D
Can be harder up hills !!

After breaking the tow strap sold in m/c places and seeing other break, I went looking for a tough tow rope but also had to be small and light.
Bought a 50' ATV synthetic winch line and cut it in half to make two 25' tow ropes.
This stuff is tough!

One of my riding buddies got climbing rope from MEC (Canadian version of REI) which also seems to work well and is cheaper.
