    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hi all,

I chipped off one of the fingers on my 2011 WR150 clutch basket while working on it.

Three quick questions:

1) How much of a dumbass am I?

2) Is it still safe to use the basket if one of the tines broke off? Given that there are about 20 of them, I can't tell if it's safe to run it like this or not. There are no burrs or anything else weird going on. My mechanic friend says no, which I'm inclined to believe.

3) Does anyone make a better/cheaper basket than the stock one? Looks like Ferraci only makes one for the 250s, but I'll call them tomorrow.

How much is broken off? Can you post a picture? My inclination is to say that you should really get a new basket. Not so much because the clutch won't work with a chip off one of the fingers, but more because the broken finger may now be overstressed and could cause a bigger chunk to let go, which could cause havoc to your inner clutch cover and right side case.
 
Seems like i remember someone on here sourcing an aftermarket basket but cant remember the details? It wasnt a Ferraci unit either.
 
Definitly new...

It actually puts a lot of stress load on the adjacent tangs. Crack; break; floating around in the side case...you don't want to go there!

Way back when...If the clutch plates started hanging/dragging we used to file out the indents on the sides of the tangs...

I'm sure we did not hit them all the same...but don't remember any breakage. I think we lucked out...

Answer to question 1 - Not much of one...sh*t happens...There most likely could be a whole thread here for screw-ups over the years...

OEM is good...We ran a whole race season on the WR/CR125 with the same basket/plates...they work.

How much is broken off? And what were you doing that broke it? If it's a significant piece missing I'd be worried about it being unbalanced.
 
It's not the center hub, but the basket around it. So the part where the friction plates put their pressure. I decided to just bite the bullet and get a brand new OEM. Better safe than sorry on something that touchy and critical. Thanks for the advice everyone.
 
You might look around for an aftermarket steel basket, or aluminum basket w/steel inserts. I think Wiseco makes them for some bikes. Hinson, Rekluse or Barnett???
 
Guys

Just been through this with my son bike and did not find a after market basket. I had to go with a husky basket.
New basket , plates and center hub lightened me up by well over $700.

Hi all

I have just replaced the clutch basket and plates in my son's bike. Put it back together as the manual said and the clutch does not disengage now. Your throughts?
 
Is the push rod/needle bearing washer in the correct way? If you pull the side cover off is the pressure plate moving/disengaging?

I picked up a basket on eBay for 100 bucks a year ago. Figured I'd need it sooner or later. Wonder what my dealer would have charged.

I got the new clutch basket, and the part number has been updated by Husky. I have the new part in hand directly from Halls.

I've mounted the new basket, but now when I mount the hub it drags/binds/scratches on the basket a bit (whereas with the old basket it spins nice and freely).

Anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering if the culprit is the stand off washer that goes in between the hub and the basket (part number 8000 H4193 on page 38 of the fiche).

The washer that was in the bike looks different from the one on the fiche, but works just fine with the old basket and old hub.

Any ideas?

Probably poor manufacturing tolerances. Italian parts!
 
I have found the same problem with clutch basket I replaced in my son`s bike.
We are in the process of putting a small washer behind the hub so that will help it spin more freely,but I`m not sure if this will work.
To me it looks like the new clutch basket gear is bigger than the old one by just a bit which makes the basket sit further forward and makes the hub bind.
