  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

how bad are the 450 or 510's?

C Class
I rode a SM450 the other day and was not impressed at all, my dinosaur 1995 610 with a bad clutch was running stronger, Sorta depressing since I was going to buy a 450 or 510, thought they would be faster revving and peppy machines. are they worth it?

Was this a brand new bike you tried?

New they have throttle stops & a little plugged up with emissions requirements.

Opened up I hear they rip.

I just dont like having a sexy and plated new dirtbike that gives me thrills anytime I take her out for a spin.

It would be nice if you could indicate what year bikes you rode and configuration (eg throttle stop installed?, miles on bikes?) so people could give meaningful input.

Yes I changed the title of the thread...

I have an 09 te510 with the powerup kit and its an incredible dirtbike. I have no complaints at all. Love everything about the bike.

They suck huge, get a Honda, they are perfect.

BTW your 610 has 127 more CC's and was no slouch to begin with.

hmm they have more than a few FIM world championships behind them but whos counting. may be good for world championships but not good enough for someone of your riding caliber.

I say keep your bike. I think the old 610s really hit their stride at the 20 year mark, especially if you never check the valves and keep the same oil in it for a 100 rides at a time or so. And make sure you mix your gas properly. Apply old oil liberally to tires to keep them new and gripping.

Troll.

My TE510 is the worst bike i have ever ridden. Last week i lost a drag race against my sisters ttr125. It is the slowest bike i have ever ridden. I hate it to be smoked always by older and smaller bikes. Want to change it as soon as possible. Stay away from it.

Hey guys this is not like the Cafe Husky resposes I have admired so much. The question was a tad abrupt but not rude. I feel we all took high dudgeon and snubbed him. Come on we are not TT here.
I think Rufus was correct in that Bangingears was riding a new stocker with all of its associated polution stuff still attached.
Solution; try to ride an SM that has been "opened up". I am positive you will be delighted.
The engines are much more free reving with double OHC, better frames and updated brakes etc.
Good luck in you deliberations.

Thank you.

In addition to all the other suggestions you may want to take your bike over to uptite, and he can take a quick spin on your bike, and give you first hand input what to expect from a newer SM450/510 compared to what you have now.

Husqvarna bikes seem to last a long time. :)

True but the original post was meaner spirited and it sure seemed like trolling. Also his posts are mostly what a POS husky or any design features are. He asked about a slipping clutch and then was given very good info by two smart people and then instead of thanking said why is husky such a POS when it comes to clutch design. Lots of unneeded negativity instead of searching, finding and then thanking for the solution. :excuseme:
