• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

hopetoun GP this weekend.....in australia

suprize

Husqvarna
Pro Class
as a tribute yo the great Hopetoun gp, VERI (vintage enduro riders inc) have organised a tribute event for pre 85 machines at Hopetoun in Victoria Aus.

The inaugural Hopetoun gp will be a rope start in the main street before heading out to the desert country which is excellent riding territory.

ive just finished prepping the big 400 and im ready to go. I will post some pics and hopefully some go pro on utube if all goes well.

there's been some rain so dust will be minimal and the sand may be packed down abit so will be an awesome weekend.

there are more details on the VERI website (google it:p)
keep you posted

with a bike like that, you had better finish well, you wont be able to blame the bike....unless it breaks, then i guess its still on you! havent seen any pics of the 400 lately

I'm a starter with a mate on his kdx250 and my nephew on one of my other bikes ( kdx200 84) , my brother is coming for crew. I'm looking forward to it-
I've just finished the prep on my 84 xc 500 that i bought earlier this year. This will be the its first real ride !! I've ridden a few desert events on modern bikes in central NSW , so it will be interesting to see how the 30 year old beast goes. Glennimage.jpg

excellent, another husky to chase! I think im close to the last entry so I will be out there on my pat Malone....listening to the crickets....chirrup chirrup chirrup if I break down. (never!!)

look forward to catching up

I will get some piccys on the day for here

I'm sure it will be a great ride like all VERi events.....enjoy and keep your eye out for Drakie's arrows :) Otherwise you may never find your way back to civilization!

Looking forward to the footage!

Well it was run and what a blast, I managed 4 laps of the 65 km course, 15 kms out and 25Km's getting back after I got lost!!!

the course was sensational...imagine a classic "Laurance of Arabia" scene....it was nothing like that!

ive got some go pro but its boring as I didn't see anyone....

when I passed luffy and his mate the camera had stopped

it also stopped before the highlight of the ride and that was the "Wall of Death" (the Wimmera mallee channel -decommissioned). What a blast that was, I tried to hit the tight bend flat in 4th but it shot me out the top and into the paddock.... woo hoo..

the track after the first road crossing was called "conrod straight", on the first 2 laps I didn't notice the bump at the top of the crest but on the last two we got air....

the big sand dune after the 2nd road crossing was great... I saw the press crew all lined up and gave it the berries, pulled a ripper roosting turn in front of them...must of looked sensational...nearly as good as when the bike then kept turning left and I shot off the track into the grass and down the side of the dune.... that must have of looked hilarious

congrats to the team on assembling a great mix of desert stuff, a great ride... I rekon it will be a must do for next year, just luv going fast....

I learnt you don't need to upjet water cooled 2/'s and lifting the needle turned it into a 125 which was great in the deep sand...not!

husky's go well in the sand, sit back, twist on some "go" and let it find its own way to the next corner...(that's when the fight starts!)

if I can get organised, I will whip some go pro onto utube

check out the Veri site for a heap of snaps!! not many husky ones tho....

there is a link to a facebook page with some ripper shots in the breaking news tab

cheers

How did the big 500 go? it looked sensational! I got lost at the end so I didnt get back to camp for a while after so I didn't catch up!

did you get it running right? I jetted my needle a clip richer and it was a nuisance... made it leap onto the band too hard which was interesting half way round a big sand wall! better safe than sorry I guess

are you heading to Beaufort?

cheers

For its first run , hopetoun was a solid test for the xc500- and it ripped ! I like it alot, and the open sand course suited it perfectly . Top end cleaned up as the day went on but it still feels like its starving on the main ( 380) - I need to check for restriction in flow to the bowl. Engine otherwise is great and usable, although the wheel spin in nearly every gear on the bitumen was disconcerting . Suspension was plush with lots of it . Ergo's suited my height ( although starting was easier standing on a log, especially with knee braces restricting your leg) . Brakes are what you would expect - you just need to remember what you are on. It sucked plenty of fuel in the sand and the big tank was drained a fair bit after a lap!
It was a top weekend and ride, my nephew was on one of my spare bikes , kdx200, and my mate on his kdx250 both enjoyed it. Im trying to edit the helmet footage now and will post it soon - I hope.
I'm in for Beaufort with the 500 again

Me on the 500, my nephew Shaun on the 200 and Mark . This was at the route check at the end of the fast Drakies doodle.

I made The period BP stickers to maintain the old BP desert rally theme. That would read doddle not doodle (above) !

excellent... Im running a 430 in the 400 and I had a 440 as back up but it was sweet. I like the stickers, great touch! After modern discs, the drums need to respect!

Im looking to go to the Heathcote natural terrain mx this Sunday, usually a couple of old bikes there but always good to take some young names on 450's as they don't like it when an old bald bloke on an even older bike passes them under brakes!!
