  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

High mileage 510 Huskys?

Hey guys I am really dying to get onto an SMR510 and have really starting looking now. I like the idea of 09-10 SMR510 with the various upgrades over the 08 model. Bottom line is these bikes are hard to find used, I have been searching Craigslist and really don't find many. So I may not get the year I want, plus a lot of folks say and 08 with the PU kit is just as good as an 09....

So with that said I did manage to find an 09' model. Lots of goodies on it and various upgrades. The downside is that it has 12,000 miles on it. That is pretty high in my opinion and I think the general consensus is that at 6000 Husky recommends a rod replacement? I asked him about maintenance he said it was regularly maintained at his buddies shop, but due to the hurricane he has no receipts of any service.... so what do you guys think about the bike and high mileage Huskys in general?

I personally would not buy any thumper with that many miles but...I have an '05 TE510 (now an SM) with around 18,000 miles and have zero engine issues with it and it still runs as good as the day I bought it new. Maybe I've had great luck or maybe I've maintained it well but I think these motors are long runners.

I wouldn't buy it because its FI. Haha after all I took a 08 SMR and carbed it. Now I'm back on my 06 450-530. At 12500 I fully rebuilt it and a 530 kit. Now I'm at another 60hrs.
If it was cheap I would pick it up

the odometer on my te450 doesn't work therefore I know nothing about the bike or its history which is concerning but I git it cheap and it runs a dream. a few oil leaks but I'm told these are common and no biggy. if the money is right Id buy it.

5k sounds a bit steep considering a new 511 has some rebates that bring the price down to that thing with an engine overhaul. It's a lot of mileage and may be fine for quite awhile but I would make sure there were extra funds in case things went wrong. If you must get it (and I understand why lol) just try and talk home down. Good luck!

5k is way too much for this bike with 12k miles.

I've seen quite a few smr510's in the tristate area 08-09 models with ~2-3k miles sell for 5k so a 12k mile bike i will not pay over $3500 for it and probably will not buy it.
I picked up a MINT 09 TE510 with 888 miles for $4300 1 month ago from a seller in NJ.

Keep looking, you will find a mint low mileage bike for the same 5k.

I just sold a mint 09 TE450 for a great low and a 08 SM610 for a good fair price just last month. I am keeping my 08 TE450 as my only Husqvarna.

Glad you posted this. I was going to start a conversation with you and Naga about that exact topic. (Curious how Naga's 250 was doing when he replaced the bike).

And yes. I think $5,000 is too much for that age & miles.

I payed $5,500 for my TE510 with 128 miles on it. 12,000 is about the end of the line for the motor in the best of cases. You're looking at $1,800 to rebuild it. There will also be a lot of other wear items that need replacement. I'd look for a low mileage bike. There are lots of them out there. Dan at Motoexotica had a 700 mile TE450 that he sold for $5,500 about a month ago. BTW, my '08 TE510 is flawless after tweaking. I really love this bike. The JD tuner makes a huge difference in the way the bike runs. You'll need the JD regardless, so don't insist on an 09 or later. What I'm saying is that the 08 is worth looking at. Bottom line, wait for the right bike. 12K is WAY too many miles to even consider.

Tri county has an 09 450 for 4k brand new. You would need to ship it and make it street legal which would probably still come out to less. They also have a 2012 tc449 for 4500. Just trying to think of other options. Someone on the classified section is selling SM wheels at a great price too
