  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi new to CafeHusky looking to buy new 2011 TXC511 -few questions...

BignHusky

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi! i have been looking the new Huskies over and have narrowed my choice down to the 2011 TXC511 or 450. I like the stiffer suspension and i think it will suit my riding style and conditions here in central texas more ideally that the TE, although that is what i was originally was looking at because i do want a plated trail bike. I have plated several dirt bikes here so i am not worried about adding lights and going through the process to plate. I did read one post on adding lights to the 2010 model but that was carbed so i don't know what wiring changes i will have to deal with but i'm sure i will figure something out.
My biggest question is maintenance scheduales and # of hours before rebuilds. I usually change oil every other offroad excursion and air filter depending on conditions and hours out. I never had to rebuild my 02 520 EXC and it was well over 130hrs. Some say i was lucky some say it was the quality of the RFS, i dunno but i don't want to get into any RXV type scenarios with a new bike. I can wrench, maintain but i would not look forward to dealing with bottom end issues every 6 mos or so...$$$
Any help, thoughts, advice or links to great setups would be much appreciated. In the meantime i am going to keep searching. I am 99.9% ready to send a deposit over on the TXC511.

Well i went ahead and pulled the trigger! Got a smokin deal that i couldn't refuse so, over xmas holidays i load up the truck and take the drive from Texas to StLouis. I'm getting the TE tailight and headlight too since they had the parts in stock i figured, why not go OEM. I know i wont be plug and play but i'll get it connected. Weird never bought a new bike over the internet / phone... i guess it was only a matter of time.!

Welcome here and sounds good and what did you buy? The 511? I was gonna say the 511 is a bored 450 and the TXC models have the cool exhaust 'can' I think .... Everyone seems to really like the bikes and there are plenty of info here on the tuning of the engine and suspension ... I'd suggest some reading here ... This thread has some suspension ideas ...

I don't think the 449 and 511 have been here long enough to really test how long they will last ..They arrived in the states in early 011 ... No reports that I remember on engine problems ... I'd expect these engines to last a very long time ... They date back a few years to some bmw design and if nothing else, bmw can design engines that last ...

Different bike and engine but my 08 TXC250 has over 850 hrs with no engine (or anything else really) issues... street, track and trail riding... I quit spending my time working, ride yr round, expect alot from my bike ... Maybe I'm lucky on my bike life? No, I ride a Husky

850 hrs? Are you kidding me, wow that is fantastic news!
Yes sorry i guess i didn't really state what i bought, indeed the TXC511. It sounded to me like it was sprung a little more aggressively than the TE so mayne it will be closer to what i want out of the box but I'm sure i will need to dial it all in. I'll be sure to check out the link you provided. Like you said not a lot of info / experiences out there on these yet. I was also wondering about the engine and the mapping that comes on the TXC vs. The TE, is it identical or also out of the box tuned to the akro exhaust? All very exiting i say and i cant wait to get some trail and wrench time on it to see what she is capable of.
The styling alone sold me... Never really said that about a dirt bike before except maybe the Aprilia RXV and i'm thinking i am better off without that train wreck of a motor.

Not sure on the mapping between the 2 models ... There is a lot written on the efi on these EFI machines here ....Odds are, whatever you find out on your bike, someone here will have experienced it already and can give very good feedback on it ...I think the 449/511 efi is pretty good out of the box but the engine can be made to produce more HP via a few changes ...

The styling has grown on me some ESP with some of the decal kits I've seen on it ...

Remember it has the CTS rear suspension ... Feel free to give feedback on that ....

I was watching my bike real close in the ~300 hr mark but it was not smoking or burning any oil, always passed my power tests, sounded same as always ... valves never moved much ... I just try to keep it under 10G RPMs and don't dog the engine too much each day ...

When you going out on it? This weekend?

Ah i wish! I won't have it in my hands until i go fetch it over the xmas holidays. It's 600mi away at this point! Philippines, are you native? Trying to imagine what it would be like riding some place like that??? Is there a lot of private or public land to ride?

Great bike. I have over 2200 miles on mine,. Mainly semi hard off road miles and it is rock solid. You will like it, everyone does. Slightly odd bike for the first ride or two then all love. :D Very accommodating do it all bike. Let me know if you have specific questions as i have a lot of experience with it now.
