  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help with my Tc449 setup

started as a response to a thread asking about a te449 for tight stuff..

Quote="Tinken, post: 339230, Riding the TE449 in the tight trails is a lot easier with a 13 tooth front sprocket, especially as you get used to the bike. A powercommander is absolutely necessary for this slow tight riding, so figure that into the cost.

Ended up with a bunch more questions so started a Thread

I went from the stock 15 tooth front to the 14 on my tc449 and the bike still stalls all the time, i guess the 13 tooth is my option now. will the 13 tooth be tougher on the engine and clutch ? and theres not a lot of swing arm Clearance now with the 14, will the 13 start to eat the swing arm away or have to buy new guards every other ride. This Power commander you speak of? im a newb and have no clue. Can it program to give the bike better bottom end and lug ability.

Im starting to get frustrated a bit with all the stalling had to buy the Ballistic Batterie (Awesome) cause the stock just wasn't cutting it. My hand kills me from all the clutching i have to do to keep her from stalling and this last ride after 3 hours the clutch just disappeared and had to be pumped to get it to work. ( overheated im sure? ) Looking for some Husky help up in Vancouver BC. This forum rocks altho some nights im all over the place reading stuff
Met a guy at a Xc race with the tc449 and he too hated the stalling and went with a Fmf header and kept the akrapovic exhaust and said it almost never stalls so thats on the list.

Lowering the the suspension? the back end yes. Will this help the handling ? a slack mtn bike is a fast mtn bike but its a bit tougher on the slow speed stuff.
would be nice to have a extra inch or 2 lower to swing the leg over. Tons of good Suspension shops up here but $$$ (RMR fox) (GP moto) (Riders Edge)

Overheating- cafe husky to the rescue picked up some engine ice and i installed a small fan from a PC i had laying around and put it on a switch. Now when the going gets tough i switch it on and it seems to do the trick. thanks for the help

Background
Raced downhill mtn bikes did all the freeride mtn biking you see in videos and was in a few as well. I can handle a bike the throttle and motor well thats a different story.
Im new to husky and new to dirt bikes about 30 hours in and i just did my first xc enduro race (3 hours of fun and pain ) Most of my rides are weekends all woods all in the mtns and all full of tight stuff, tuff climbs, switchbacks and rock. Im getting better each ride but my last ride i swapped bikes for 30 minutes for a pimped out ktm350sx and it blew my mind it was like cheating no stalls no hiccups and i was flowing faster. im not ready to sell the 449 yet his bike was a pro set up ( one of the guys with tons of lout) i think if i can get the 449 setup it will make a sick do all bike.

Lay it on me what do i need and whats it going to cost ?

No, the 13 won't eat the swing arm. Yes, pcv will help on the bottom end. Eventually you should match it with an FMF megabomb and 4.1rct.

There's no way you over heated the dds clutch unless you are drastically low on oil, possibly overheated the clutch fluid. I recommend flushing your clutch fluid with Dot 5.1. Do not use Mineral oil based fluids in this system.

Engine ice is not a good option in the 449. The water pumps in these engines are not designed to pump viscous liquids like polypropylene. EngineIce uses water to thin it's formula which eventually boils off down to a liquid as thick as 140 weight gear oil. Once this happens, you will over heat and in a big way. This is why I always recommend my XF coolant which is thinned with a compound which will not boil off, in fact, the coolant will last the life of the engine.

You can lower the rear suspension, this usually comes at a cost to travel. When we raced this motorcycle as the Factory team for Husqvarna, we developed the suspension lowering technology for these suspension systems. We also designed the lowering link for the 2011's now commonly found on the later bikes. This is a must for 2011 tc449's and can be done to later models. Steering is sacrificed, but the stability is greatly increased, especially on the softer tracks and trails.

How often have you been changing your oil in your TC and what have you been putting into it?
