  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

help...what to buy?te511, tc449 or txc310

so...have a wr300 2012...Love it! but when an oportunity arises to get a screamin deal on another bike i tend to buy now think later, lol...so local dealer offered me three bikes at amazing deals. I initially considered the 310 very heavily..but im 250 in gear, not sure how it would do with my weight, will i miss the power of the wr300 (im keeping it also)? next is the tc449, i rode one for a very short time not long enough to form an opinion, how does it compare to my wr300? and lastly does anyone but a TE511 and make it strictly a dirt bike? if i bought it i would do a full exhaust (open to ideas) race map, JD tuner, and get rid of all the dual sport stuff and regear it much lower. I like to ride the dunes a few times a year, has anyone riden a powered up 511 on some big sand hills?? how will it be next to a 450 mxr including the TC449? and what will the trail manners be like? Sorry for the massive amout of qestions just want to make the right choice to compliment my fav bike ever(minus that goofy kick starter in the WR lol)

If you have no intention of using it for street then you're probably better off going with the TC. I've never ridden one myself but I would think
it probably rips out of the box. The 511, btw, has a close ratio tranny so if you do end up choosing it you still may want re-gear it but the other way.
It does, however, have an extra gear over the TC but for strictly dirt riding it's n/a.
I really love my 511 for woods trails and dirt roads etc... which is what I mainly ride. It's an excellent general purpose (do it all) bike and you can
legally ride it on the street. Now a days that is a big plus for connecting trails or dualsporting. Good luck. Keep us updated.

jerbear: did you do any performance stuff to the 511? ever been in the sand with it? that would be my main idea with the 511 over the TC449 is to have a little extra power for the sand (after the performance upgrades)..also like to ride single track some..so thats why i was thinking of dropping a tooth in the front sprocket....

I haven't ridden a WR300, 449 or 511 so my opinion will be biased.

I'm about 255 with gear and my 310 handles my weight well. I rarely miss the power of the 510.

If you didn't mention sand dunes, I would say 310... but you did so.... 511

TC449 works great out the box and it rips. TXC511 has the most torque and power. Combined with FMF exhaust and pc5 makes it the fastest of the 449's.

I've added a Power Commander V and FMF Muffler. For me that's the winning combo. The 511 has flame out (stalling) issues big time. Mine
did, I should say. The PCV cured that problem.
I don't know that the TE511 has more power than a TC449. I'm not sure exactly what the differences are but I think the TC has a larger header pipe
and probably a little higher compression and maybe a different throttle body or something like that. I'm sure someone knows.
Oh yeah, I've never ridden in sand dunes. I've been in sand a little but not for any length of time. Having a plated dirt bike is great, imo. Try it, you just
might agree.

tinken: my delaer may have sold the the TC449 to a friend of mine...Ill find out tomorrow, but i know he has the 511...Out of the box is the tc449 faster then the TE511? how about after the exhaust and tuner on the 511? I may be able to spend some time on both a txc310 and his 449 next week..Im hoping to do that before making a decision, but i will not have an oportunity to ride a 511 before i have to make up my mind..

Yes, out of the box than a TE511, but the TE511 can be made to be faster than the TC. TC has a little nicer forks, but the TE's can be made to perform just as well. TE is street legal, so you can ride it places where the TC cannot go.

I have a WR300 and got such a good deal on a TE449 I couldnt walk away from it. This was last year when the 13's just came out. I got a factory demo from Woodcliff Lakes. I love both bikes for different reasons. The TE is not AS capable as the WR in the tight single track BUT it makes for a phenomenal dual sport. I got a set of supermoto wheels for the TE also so its like 2 bikes in one.
Good luck with your choice.

dealer called me today...i can have the 449 if i want it...so i think the choice is between the txc310 and the tc449, the TE511 is 1000 dollars more and then i would have to spend the money to make it rip, so i think i have narrowed it down...Thanks everyone so far for sharing thier experiences, would love to here more!!

i ripped his demo around the endurocross track he has behind his shop, going to have to get used to the low speed flameout...my wr300 is like the anti stall master so i may have developed some bad habits being lazy on the 300 and letting it chug lol...no big deal tho my rmz i had would do it once and i while and i got used to riding around it in that bike so shouldnt be an issue...Bike felt powerful and his demo was an 11....cant wait to break it in and have some fun****************************************

Congrats, nice bike. That has two map settings that you can switch with the push of a button, right? I'd like to hear
more about that sometime. After you put in a little time on it, of course. Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks! Yes is does have the two map settings, I'm going to break it in a few hours after work this week gently, then I'm going to take it next wed for probably a 40 me loop, so I should have a little info then.

Great choice**************************************** I love my TC449. Handles great and gives up nothing to any other 450 out there... plus it isn't a cookie cutter bike. Mine always gets the looks at tracks.
