  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Help! Trying to Negotiate

Been exchanging emails and am ready to pick up a TE310. The dealer has 2012's,13's and 14's. He quoted me $6700 OTD on the 12 and $7200 OTD on the 14. Nothing on the 13 yet. I know these are high and was wondering what people have paid. I was thinking about offering $6700 OTD on the 14. Is there significant difference 13 vs 14? Any kinks in the Red Head worked out in the 14 that would make it a better buy? Should I try to get a steal on the 12? I'm on a tight budget so even $300 saved would mean alot. Any advice will be helpful.

In MA by chance? With that much old stock they should be trying much harder to move them. I got my '13 TE511 for $6500 back in May during the $2500 off rebate. I don't think the 310 were marked down that much (maybe $1K???) but if you search you should be able to find out what the rebate was at the time. While not all dealers participated in the rebate program if they got in 2014's I suspect they did.

I'd offer $5k cash (if you have it) for the 12 and see what their response would be. If they balk walk away and wait for a call in the next few days. You can always offer more after the fact.

I just searched this thread for you and back in May a guy mentioned he got a 310 for $5500 which I believe was a $2500 rebate. MSRP being $8K I think. Some dealers didn't order new inventory to take advantage of the rebates and other dealers may have ordered more and instead of marking the 13's that got the discount as such they split the savings across their old inventory. Like I said in my original post, low ball and be prepared to walk away and let the dealer sweat if for a week or so before upping your offer. Obviously that old stock isn't going anywhere.

My 2012 TE310 was 6k OTD all in. That was in the spring of 2013. They are even less now here. I would get the 2012 since they seem to have far less issues once you get it sorted out (TXC EFI/ECU) and the valves last longer, but I gotta admit I am partial.

When you say "OTD" what are you including?

Leftover TE310's here are going in the high 5's. I have a buddy that just got a new leftover TE310 for $5600. If you don't need the plate, shop around for a non street legal model and you can find some killer deals.

I have considerable time now on a 310 - and am so glad I got talked into my 449 (I was showing up at the dealer to buy a 310 and "mine" got destroyed through a freak mishap). The leftover 449's and 511's are going for high 5's too. I have seen a number of them sell for $5700-5900. These bikes are an absolute bargain at that price. I have yet to find a single moment I wished for the smaller motor.

So you had a 310, and were going to buy another 310? :banghead:

No...not the cleanest engrish on my part. A few Huskys in the riding circle. One TXC REALLY dialed in that I do like. The TEs are just not impressive and they have done all the "cheap" options. They wont admit it, but the love the 449!

OTD prices vary everywhere. You can't go off anyone's OTD cost unless they're from where you are. Another factor is most guys with the 2012's added the TXC injector and ECU. Supposed to make them a ton better performance wise. I can't really say what I'd do. With a few hundred meaning something to you, I'd see if they'd include the ECU and Injector with the 2012 and possibly knock it down to 6500.

That's still way too high. This is at least on the east coast - a 2014 for $6K. They are cheaper in CA.

Looks like there are quite a few leftovers too still floating around in the 5's. There is too much work to be done on them for 6500 for a leftover bike - especially when you get a current model year for less.

I was just in Halls and I cannot recall, but they had 13's and 14's and they were definitely stickered lower - I want to say around $6k even.

Thanks everyone for the informative responses. I should have mentioned, I am in Southern California where everything costs a fortune. The 14's I have gotten quotes for were both advertised for $5999. The dealers havent come off of that number, by (email at least) and are both tacking on prep and freight. One gave me $7700 including tax and all fees. The other said $7200. He said he could give me the 12' for $6700 all fees and taxes included. I was surprised that they couldn't come off the 12' more as well, thinking maybe in person where they can close the deal immediately maybe they would flex more. I am waiting on my financing to come through from my credit union (probably tomorrow) so I will have "cash" when I go in. I kind of want to go aggressive on the 12' but the two years older will hurt the resale and I am told the redhead motor on the 14' is good and mapping is better. I have also heard the 12's are more reliable though, which makes me want to go that route. Is there a relative consensus that the 14' is worth, lets say, a grand more?

I checked my dealer's website and they have ALOT of 14's in stock. I'm thinking they bought a bunch under the rebate program that was mentioned. I'll probably go in and offer something in the low $6k range, tax and all included. That's about a grand off of what they quoted me via email.

I'll look into it. Do you have an opinion of how much at 14' would be worth over a 12', both being "new"?
I would get the 14 before the 12 just because of set up like I mentioned. They're both amazing but the 13/14's are amazing-er lol. Just like everyone is pointing out, the 449/511 is an awesome platform too. Do whatever you can afford

OP you may want to do a little research and see if any crates of leftovers are showing up at random dealers. That is no doubt how I got my 2013 449 int he high 5's (mine was $5800 new). They had a BUNCH of them - boxes stacked up like wood.

Not sure how that all plays out, but it looks that certain dealers are always preferred "outlets" for these leftovers. It would make sense that some 14's held up in all the business exchange might be findthing their way over. A flood of 500 bonus bikes could really drive the price down again.

Parts? Ehhh...has not been a problem for me...but it is a thought I have had.

I will say that the KTM equivelant was a full $3500 MORE than what I paid and the 449 gives nothing up to its KTM equivalent. Happy...
