I had one shear off on a ride out once. Then I treated mine as a service item and changed it every 6 months or so.
I also looked into getting one in stainless steel which in theory should be tougher.
One dealer advised me to use thread lock on the taper.
I didn't however because my Dad taught me how to fit flywheels on a taper and that way it should be clean and dried by drawing a sheet of news paper through the bore.
You can put thread lock on the nut and torque it down then slack it off then torque it down to the correct setting. The first torquing gets it on the taper tight the next gets the nut tight.
