• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey Guys,

I am 1350 miles from home and my 630 stalls and will not restart for 15-25 min. I am thinking ignition coil breaking down and when it cools the bike will restart. I have seen this before on cars. Any thoughts would help, anyone know if an automotive coil can be modified to work? Other motos that have similar coils? I'm sure no Husky coils are available in MX to try.

It would be nice to be home for Christmas but with a bike that stalls on the road it is not safe nor efficient to make any progress.:)

Thank you for any help!

What does the spark plug look like? I once had stalling problems that turned out to be some bad fuel. Also make sure that you didn't accidentally knock the enricher lever open. Good luck - let us know what you find out...

Thanks for your reply! The plug looks good the moto runs great for miles then just dies! Of course it dies on blind corners and roads with no shoulders and such. We thought of bad Pemex fuel and added octaine booster and the last of our USA gas. That made no difference. Trying to see if just any Moto coil will work to get us home!

Oh my, Best of luck getting your 630 sorted and home for Christmas!

Have you tried installing a different battery in your 630? If not, TRY IT! 3 of our Husky's have had similar symptoms with weak/bad batteries. Towards the end of my original battery on my 510 it would pop and stall like it had bad gas. The 310 with old original battery just flat stalled out in a water crossing and it completely reset the instrumentation with zero push start functionality. Luckily I was able to kick start the 310 and make it home. My 630, I laid it down on a corner in the dirt, just a mellow front tire wash out, and the hit shorted out the battery and left the 630 doa. Got towed out that day.

Swap out the battery and best of luck to you guys!

You mention on ADV that the problem started after the bike was dropped. Which side was the drop?

Battery advise is worth pursuing too.

.

Bike was laid down on the right side. DynoBob have you heard of the coil being a problem or are you just prepared with the spare coil?

DynoBob,

Hey, I am working through all the ideas this morning and will get back to you about the spare coil, if it is needed. I wanted to head North on Sat so have today to figure it out. It is hard to tell if it is fixed since you need at times to ride 75mls or more before it stalls again. Any idea how long it would take for FedEx to get a coil to MX?

and yet we still want e-start / EFI bikes:excuseme: so sorry for your troubles i do hope you get home safe for Christmas for your own sake bet you here about it for a looooong time if you dont i'll pray for you cause thats all the help i can offer

Not sure e-start and EFI handle water in the fuel better or worse that carb'd motos. Taking a test ride this afternoon to see if the small amount of water found could have been the issue! Prayers are great as well, wish us luck!

If you are still stuck, you might want to try contacting Dan @ MotoXotica by phone - when my buddy got stuck with his 610 in Salt Lake City, Dan helped diagnose the problem and fedexed parts.

Well, sorta, DynoBob has FedEx'd a coil and fuel pump. Doesn't look like they will be here until Thur isn't that Christmas? My poor son who has been out of the country for the past two Christmases will miss another it looks like!
