    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

If you all remember, I bought this 1972 CR 450 off of Craigslist. Low and behold, when I sandblasted the parts and in particular, the front fender bracket, I discovered a date (1972) stamped twice into the bracket; once on the side of the triple clamp mount and the other, under the fender mount tab.

I took it down to Vintage Husky and showed it to John LeFever. He stated that the fender mounting bracket was an original tube bracket and not a reproduction. He also stated that although the Swedes last used this bracket in 1970, the Husqvarna factory was known to use older parts such as this bracket if they ran short during production runs.

I've never seen it before so I contacted the original owner and he stated that other than installing an old automotive tire as a replacement fender at the rear, different rear shocks and a Yamaha spark arrester, the bike is stock.

Do you want to know why they have stamped a date on the bracket?

It is probably because it's an older bracket that they used on a never bike like John said.

I could ask the Husqvarna Museum here in Sweden.
But then I have to know what question to ask =)

I have a fender bracket (for a 1970 bike) that was mounted on a 1972 Husqvarna CR450. The tube bracket is NOT a reproduction and is stamped 1972. Was the earlier bracket installed on this 1972 done at the factory?

After discussing this issue with the original owner, he stated that he bought the bike brand new and it came with this bracket. Is this unusual or was it common practice if the factory ran short of parts?

Now we have to wait because its Midsommar as we say here in Sweden.
A Swedish holiday, so the person that probably know why you have to old bracket will in an hour or two not know who he is or what Husqvarna ever was.

This might also be the answer to why you have the wrong bracket in the first place.

I would say it was commonplace as I am one of the "lucky' few that a 1984 250WR that has a properly numbered frame for 1984 that clearly has 1983 rake angle 30.5° instead of the 28.5 on 1984 specifications. Husqvarna has had a long running habit of using up old inventory in early year production runs.

Now I have your answer with a little twist.

He says that Husqvarna never stamped any brackets, not with year nor article numbers.
He thinks that your bracket have been replaced by the Dealership due to shipping damage.

Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated! Since my post , I have sourced a replacement (correct) bracket for my 1972 CR450 which I have chosen to use...
