• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hard Starting with Booster Plug

To avoid starting a thread, I'm offering my slightly used and working Booster Plug free to anyone who wants it. Just need to pay the postage. Like most people, I found it worked well for a bit then seemed to be tuned out by the ECU. But who know, it may work a charm for others. Just PM if interested.

I'll send the accelerator module free of charge to anyone in the EU, just PM me. I believe it works on the 650GS as well. Anything DeLewis said about the ECU applies here as well.

Hi Dan, I think I can help you through this. It may take a few back and forth trials. Knowing about how ECUs fuel in general we can probably work out what to do in your situation. I think it's likely that pulling the O2 connection to the ECU and modifying the fueling are the root cause but I'm obviously not certain about that.

Here is the usual cold start sequence, not every feature is in every ECU.

-Set start spark advance and dwell
-Cranking enrichment (lots of fuel for a couple cycles, up to 200% extra)
-Starting enrichment (engine temperature dependent 20-100% extra)
-After start enrichment (temp and time dependent 10-15% extra)
-Warmup enrichment (declining with temp and time 10-0% extra)

During the above period long term trims are applied.

One thing you could try is just unplug the injectors from the PCV and leave the rest installed.
Another thing is add 20% to the lowest RPMs see if that helps.

Thanks for the info Roger.

What I need to do is contact DynoJet to see exactly when the PC5 kicks in during the start up routine. I already know the AutoTune doesn't even come into play until the bike is running.

The PC5 does offer a cold start map option if you connect the engine temp sender to it, which it's currently not. That is probably worth the effort, but I need to see if the OEM temp sender works on a 0-5v range, most likely it does.

I have subtracted a lot (-25, whatever that value truly is) of fuel from the lowest rpm ranges (500, 750, 1000). It's basically much too rich during the first 2-3 seconds as you pointed out.
