  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hard shifting TE 250

My friend has 2008 TE 250 that's wearing out his toe.Is there any remedy for this without splitting the cases? It doesn't matter if you use the clutch or not it's just hard.
Thanks Bill

Bill,
Are you sure Rich just isn't a Husky Auto wussy?

If he could get an electric starter on the Auto that would be his bike of choice, but it does shift awfully hard. I tried different shims on the EFM to try to reduce the drag but I don't think its working to well.
167 is good needs a little jetting work but power is good.

A couple possibilities-

These things tend to get hard to shift when they need an oil change.

Also, there is a component(I don't recall the name of it) located on the right side of the tranny behind the clutch that can get galled up. If/when it does get galled, it makes the bike hard to shift and/or makes the gear lever stick. You don't have to split the cases to get at it, but IIRC you have to remove the clutch. If it's galled, file/sand it clean & the problem should be fixed(assuming it isn't something else altogether).

There was a thread with pics on here or TT a couple years ago about this.

I couldn't get my shifter to even move last week.Took the clutch cover off and discovered the screw on the end of the shift drum was so loose it moved when I touched it.I also found the thread referred to above and I did clean up some minor burrs.Pay attention to how the assembly is installed so you can put it back in a little easier than I did.Shifting is spot on now as it had been jumping out of gear on occasion before.

Oil is fresh, clutch lever is good. We'll take the clutch assembly out this week and see what the drum looks like, glad you don't have to split the cases.
Thanks Bill

Was it this 'Neutral Issues' thread? http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/neutral-issues.14817/#post-150270

The thread I'm thinking of was a different one, but the thread you refer to covers similar issues & IIRC the same parts.
