  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

handguard

OK, so I know several people have ordered these HDB guards to fit the stock bar and controls. Can anyone list out what they actually ordered on the HDB website list of options for other people to follow along and do the same?

2012 TE511 - Cycra Pro-bend - took me 15 minutes to install - just cut off the end of your grips and bolt on the guards. Layed it down the next day rippin' in on a dirt road ... couple scratches but zero damage to my levers.

The up-front cost is worth it if you look at the price of new levers and alla that.

Here is the low down from Paul him self.

"For the TE's the bolt pattern is 93x50mm, but I don't support the 50mm top clamps anymore because they're asymmetrical, what I'm making is 93x38/40mm and then the lowers I make for everything else matches those. So when you order you need to order lowers too."

Since I am running a GPR Steering dampener which already uses a GPR supplied lower Clamp (not stock husky one!) I didn't need the lower he was talking about. Here is what my order was.

1 1/8" Bars
Top Clamp Bolt Pattern: 100x38/40mm Bolt Pattern.
Top Clamp: SX Top Clamp
Upgrade to our Ultimate Hanguards: None
Add Black Anodize: None
Add a Mirror: One Mirror.

If you are running the stock Tomaselli bars then the ID is too small and needs to be drilled out to 9/16" if you are going to tap the inside for the treaded inserts. Hopefully that helps they are great as everyone says and I would definitely order them again!

I'm confused. So the HDB handguards won't work on a TE310? My 2012 appears to have Magura bars. Has anyone here installed the HDB handguards on a 2012 TE310? If so, would you be willing to share what you had to order, and any tips about the install? Thanks.

I just installed them on my 2012 TE310 today. You need the lower clamps from HDB like they mentioned above. Send Paul an email he will get you squared away. One note: These stock bars are freaking hard allow so be prepared to invent some cuss words while tapping the bar ends. Tip> Drill them out with a 9/16" bit prior to tapping, you will thank me later. Not sure maybe Magura? Really hard bars straight from Husky but I like the bend so no need to replace these. I did go with the highest lower riser HDB offers since I am 6'4" and they are only 1" over the stock risers. Overall very happy with the HDB setup.

I ended up e-mailing Paul over the winter and got answers to my questions. As you note, you have to replace the lower clamp as well as the upper. I had no problems with the left side. The tap went in straight and threaded the bar with minimal effort. I got the throttle side a slight bit crooked, and experienced a bit more effort as you describe. I don't think it is the hardness of the bars that creates the additional effort as much as it is the tap trying to straighten itself out as it advances deeper. Irregardless, a 1/2" ratchet takes care of the problem.
