  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Handguard help

That is what my bars look like, and that I had to drill. If ARH has the same bars, then it's possible that there's a different insert supplied that will fit. Regardless, I didn't receive them with my Moose/EE guards and had to drill them.
Different bars, that would explain why some people are having to drill. This is what my 2012 looks like, may also be different inserts too?... check out the display "0" I took the photo before my 1st ride (no hand guards yet)

I really dont want to have to drill out the end. I dont kow if it will compromise any of the structural integirty in the bars. I will upload some photos of my bars, see what you guys think after that.

Bro Bend are a direct fit to width. With a nylon threaded insert they are indestructible and worth the $$ I found them for 112.00 at an online Helmet shop in Fullerton CA. I wave them on 6 of my bikes and they have never bent or compromised the bars. They are so integrated with the bar it is like double protection.

If you have Tomasellis (sp) you'd have to drill out the ends, you'd probably have to drill the Tomasellis no matter what bar end mount you use, not sure if you have stock bars and if 2004 stock bars were Tomasellis, I know my 2005 stock bars were but my 2009 were fat bars that didn't need drilling (I think???).

I'm worried about the clamp size that attaches the handguard to the handlebar closest to the clamp that fits over the bars ...

There should only be 2 sizes, 1 1/8" for "fat bars" and 7/8" for regular bars with a crossbar, I think the outside diameter of the bars, no matter what brand, are standard sizes. The fat bar clamps are tapered, where they clamp on is in the transition between 1 1/8" and 7/8". I haven't used those types in a while, I have flexx bars on my TE and HDB handguards on the SM with triple clamp mounts.

Yep, that is the sizes I am needing ... Will the EE guards fit on the 'fatbars' that have the transition between 1 1/8" and 7/8" diameters?

I looked at EE's website, their handguards spec's don't tell you much about the center clamps. I've never used the EE's, I've mostly used Cycras, not trying to sell anyone on Cycras but their complete kit is simple to order and IMO look like there is much more R&D involved with the whole setup. Here is the Cycra 1 1/8" complete pack- http://store.cycraracing.com/ceremo11ba.html , the center reach looks nice mounted all the way to the straight part of the bars ,also for people that have Flexx bars they have a complete kit to fit.

So lemme get something straight, no matter what handguards i go with, it seems inevitable that i will have to drill my handle bar ends out. I never changed them, so they have to be the stock tomaselli. Still not sure of which to go with, toss up between the Cycra, or the HDB, probably should just make a decision already.

Yes. just installed a set of EE hand guards today on the second bike. They clamp onto the tapered part somewhere within the transitional part. There is some room for adjustment depending on how far in toward the center the clamp ends up. I thought I had the wrong part at first when I got the second set, note that EE offers 2 types of clamp to choose from when ordering, both fit the same bars but the "evolution" (as apposed to the regular or original) style have a bend to give a little extra room for the hydraulic clutch parts, but both styles fit. Comparing the two side by side I like the EE evolution better though they cost about $10. more.
