    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Stephan has not returned my emails, he was working with it from early on.

My interpretation is that we are not getting service. There will always be new models coming out and the TR will be kicked to the curb. It's been on the list for a year already. Probably too tough for them, and not enough production numbers to justify.

Don't hold your breath, time and money will be better spent on the development of the MicroSquirt. Then you will have full control of your bike.
 
Hmm ...so the dreams of a fully working GS-911 for a TR650 are for nothing.

Looking at Hexcode website latest it appears that they have possibly done nothing in the development of the software for the TR650 as I find this....

As I see it they already had a program for the 650GS with the new MM ECU (just like a TR) but it was not fully functional as indicated in the Function Chart. It did basic stuff such as read codes and possibly reset a few things but not much at all. All the good stuff is listed as 'future planned' but that has not happened. With BMW having discontinued the bike, so Hexcode discontinued the progress in this direction.

I believe this is the software that Hexcode said was suitable for the TR650 and the program they originally promised to be developing further, but have not.

So we are no further along the road to progress away from MOSS which has left us anyway.

Let me add a few of my own......Something smells here and it is not good......don't hold your breath.
 
I started a 'ticket' with them on the TE449/511 as well. I mentioned that I have access to dealer software if that made the process easier.

That's a bit harsh. Hardly an empty promise. The response says clearly that its a very low priority for them.
Hexcode do not sell any compatible hardware for the TR650 and have no obligation to provide any software.

A bit harsh ?? I was merely quoting his words, not mine.
The fact is there is no evidence that Hexcode have actually done anything towards any progress on the TR650 and my guess is they probably never will.

Reading between the lines, the software Hexcode originally 'offered' was in fact the basic program they had for the BMW 650 with the MM ECU, which they discontinued work on some time ago. There has clearly been no further progress in this direction or any other related to that bike or similar.
 
I would think that cf with other bikes and their full support offered by manufacturers the sales for the tr650 would be proportionally greater for this tool. We will be left with the gs911 or nothing whilst the bmw lot will probably cope quite well without it.
I have a bmw and have no NEED for gs911 but soon i can see a NEED for the tr650. How many tr650s floating around.?

Reluctantly I agree with Vodka.
I'm having a 12 month warranty service at a BMW dealership as there isn't a Husqvarna dealer nearby and the KTM dealer does not want to know. BMW workshop can do the full service but don't have anything to analyse the electronics ie fault codes etc.
I would think there will be a strong market for a GS911 type interface as KTM/Husqvarna don't seem to be getting their act together.
It's their customers who are being inconvenienced and their dealers who are missing out on business.
Strange business model.
 
Maybe ,just maybe given the logic of the final decision, KTM ,the owner could be forced by an American judge to reveal basic code ..ie the code restricts appropriate service in the absence of MOSS, failure to provide MOSS access etc etc then the only fair judgement is to provide the basic code so the owners could provide there own service. Its not like we have bought a Saab car in some remote part of the western Namibian desert. Half the people it seems in North America cant access basic MOSS tool for maintenance. Apart from the method of filing in a higher court anyone could present an argument..just need facts re availability of MOSS tool associated with failure to provide backup MOSS etc and simple solution to making access to basic function so easy... Couter argument could not be on loss of earnings..The argument gets more persuasive as MOSS availability reduces with time as people are suggesting is happening...

Just filing a suit may make them listen to reason... The marketing and goodwill would be worth far more than they would lose. It would seem initially counterintuitive but it could be that KTM has learnt from the last major goof up...remember the "Long Way Round" Couldn't give the lads 2 bikes for the trek only to fine BMW lap up $$$$ in advertising for the cost of 2 bikes..still hysterical.

This is essentially what brought about the OBD II diagnosis ports in modern cars.
Consumers and repairers banded together and GM, Chrysler and Ford all got to producing a single system of basic code and a common port that could output trouble codes and data.
Now everyone uses it.

Bikes should be no different in my opinion.

We are in the same position with the TE449/511 series of bikes as the TR650.
Ktm don't care, the old Husky and dealers are dead but the bikes live on!!
How 'bout it Hexcode ??
 
Abandoned by South Africa GS 911 ?? Maybe yes, maybe no, still pending??, the MOSS tool, KTM, Husqvarna, and BMW, what other recourse do we have except an attempt to pressure KTM the owner to provide us with the basic code for our TR650's. If my bike failed to perform as it has done to a few here on this forum my persistence would ring someones bell. If Hexcode won't do it there must be someone who can. I'd like to continue to ride this motorcycle, given the fact at some point in time I will need computer diagnosis. I'm sending an email to KTM most specifically and all above that I have listed in hopes we can access the code and diagnose our bikes. Hopefully I can report some positive info.
 
I just started with an email to Hexcode support first, then I called my dealer Motofit, in Danbury CT and asked about KTM support for the TR650, said he would call me back, next is KTM and Husqvarna NA. Contacted KTM Austria, and Husqvarna social media FB page

I doubt if any of that will help. My understanding is that for the sale of Husky to go through to Pierrer Industries, that the EU antitrust had to approve the deal, which was to give 10 years support. If you could get ahold of that governing agency and file a formal complaint, you may see results in as quick as a year or so. Maybe it would put some fire under their arses, and then roll out the OSS spoken of sooner. But none of that will help if your dealer didn't sell enough to justify the expense.

I would do this too if I knew how to contact EU antitrust
 
Beta testing is generally considered to be the stage when a product is thought to be mostly ready, but want an expanded audience to see if any new problems need fixing first. If they are using the term in generally accepted practice, then they are nearly ready to release to the public. That said, they do not give any information concerning what features that product supports. So, a product that can physically hook up and identify a TR but do absolutely nothing else could be all that they have in beta testing. Not a likely feature set, but just pointing out that the feature set is unknown.
