• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

That's a wrist and foot injury? I broke a bone in my wrist yrs back .... It only gets worst as time passes and I have very little up&down movement ... Maybe your outcome will be better ... Good luck on your recovery ..

EDIT: I did find this where the 2 terms are referring to the wrist only -- For the bone in the wrist/hand formerly called navicular, see scaphoid bone.


 
Man, real sorry to hear that. .02 of advice. take your time and heal up correctly. Extra time now will buy you years later. my buddy has had a couple of broken wrists and didn't take care of it properly. 2 surgeries and 10 years later he can't ride for more than 20 minutes without serious pain. I keep telling him to get flexx bars but he just opts to not ride much anymore. Don't let that happen to you!!

Sorry to hear about the broken wrist also. I wish you a speedy recovery.

I have had 2 open reductions on both the Radius and Ulna from the same break and then a third surgery to remove 4 of the screws on my left wrist, 1 of those 28 screws I had was sticking through and out the top of my radius causing additional muscle and tendon damage for about 16 months during my rehab and physical therapy. I have 24 screws still left and there going to stay there. This happened on a get off as well. My hand had a 78 degree angle in it when my wrist got broke. I walked the bike home like that after cutting the sleeve off my armoured jacket to get if off. I now have a limited up and down motion myself and reduced movement of my thumb joint from nerve damage. Sounds about the same as what happened during your milk bottle fall when you were smaller but I'm 55!

I now wear All-Sports dynamics wrist braces on both wrists, they work great. I've had no issues with pain in my wrists while riding whatsoever. To my own disbelief. The first time I went riding with a buddy of mine he blew both front fork seals on a brand new CRF 450 R we just got done fitting with lights and a heavier flywheel. It was a rough ride. the rest of me was sore for over a week though.

The braces have 3 removable stops (which can be seen screwed into place second screw down from top in the middle of the picture) to control actual movement up and down, or they can be left unattached to give full movement. I wear a 60 degree stop on my right side and limit my left wrist to 45 degrees. I just had shoulder surgery in Oct. and have more pain in my both shoulders than in my bad wrist and I wear a shoulder brace as well.

Just out of curiousity will they let you keep fitness in the rest of your left arm and shoulder ? Maybe too early for plans but my PT guy suggested to me that therapy could have started a little earlier and avoided some of the atrophy issues.
 
Too bad on all that breakage .. This one might be a wait it out 100% for the mending... :( ...

Good luck on your healing ... Anyone gonna ride your bike while you are off?
 
basically this is the first real "injury" break since 2010, so thats a good run (2010 was my heart valve surgery). This is cake in comparision. Time to work on getting the suspension proper and tinkering. plus a new man cave house with a big garage looks like its in the cards.

this break is nowhere near as severe as others mentioned above, shoot i even rode the Beta back then put in a couple of miles on my TE300 after the get off, but did need to quit.
 
Sorry to hear that.
True test of a marrage is to break both at the same time.
Get it into your head early with that type of break don't push it as to comming back early, TAKE THE TIME and let it HEAL. Major STAND DOWN TIME
The navicular is the worst bone in the body to heal and heal properly.
Ask if that will work the same as a bone graft, when they don't heal then that's what has to be done, and sometimes it works.

Yea my target date is 16 Jul my B day @ 11 weeks from wire surgery. A few weeks out from wire removal.

On another note; accident investigation, I hit a loose but flat rock on straight well known single track trail, maybe 30mph at most. Rear wheel swapped so it was kind of a highside instant to ground. bike was barely away from rock laying on its left side, with me about 10 feet in front of bike on my left side. left hand/wrist hit first, hip and left side hit all together, hip/thigh joint is also sore. why? stock suspension, i am over weight for rear spring, it felt like the rear was a hard tail on that hit. I was probably half way into travel from my undersprung ride and that HS hit just did not move the rear and hard deflected and pitched me off. also i was not in lighten the rear attack mode i was seated back with more rear weight bias, just cruising back to camp---a little too casually.

Your description above is about exactly how I crashed and broke my wrist. I was just going into 3rd gear getting to the trails casually on a trail entry I had been on a hundred times and someone had thrown a piece of concrete slab from a cement walkway they had broken and dug up from infront of there house I guess right into the middle of the trail. It was just on the other side of a blind turn with a mound of dirt on the turn right there so it couldn't be seen until I was too close with nowhere to go. The front wheel skipped off the corner and the rear wheel hit it, kicked up and a high side instantly had me slammed down with the bike laying there a few feet away. I rolled over and hit the kill switch and knew I was screwed looking at my wrist. My hand was angled towards me 78 degrees.

I could ride rocks all day long way bigger but I wasn't in attack mode and was also sitting and somewhat relaxed. That chunk of cement side walk was just not like the rocks I ride on all day long in the creek and river beds. It still has the tire marks on it from July 21st of 2012.

It now sits in my flower bed just outside my front door. I went out there and picked it up in my truck so someone else didn't hit it. Along with the other concrete chunks discarded by the same asshole which got thrown out in a safer place on the way back home. I only wanted the one infamous piece. Its a constant reminder of how something odd or a bit foreign in shape from everything else can cause a crash. I walk by it many times a day.

My front and rear suspension has been completely replaced and resprung just for me. WP/KTM forks goldvalved and built by Racetech, and a WP rear Trax shock with a Slavins progressive spring. It was something for me to do while I was healing. The bike works very well for my set up now but I do ride a bit more carefully also.

Take it easy healing buddy, these things can't be rushed. My wrist will never have the full range it once had but I can still ride and work and thats the main thing.
