The cost of piecing it together is just too much. I just wanted to own one of the big bikes for nostalgia. Down the road an electric start 300 2t might be an idea.

The only things on a 500 that are different from a 430 engine are the crankshaft and top end. If you do not have a 500 engine yet, then you simply need to buy one. I sold off an 83 500CR frame 2 years ago and it was the same frame used on the 250CR

I have a complete 82/430wr, a 87/430 cr bottom end no cylinder, a empty 430 case. I have a set of 500cr gears and a good 430 crank used extra. With the 87/430cr I'm thinking about a 500cc. I need to slow up I guess.

Just put it on the back burner, but don't give up. Kelly (Motosportz) found a very clean '83 500XC, very close to him, just taking a peak on Craigslist.

I had wanted a '92-'93 WXC/E-350 for a long time. I was the same as you, it was looking like it would cost a bundle to piece together the few junkers, that would pop up. That vintage Husky is harder to find parts for, than '80s Swedish! I had even quit looking at Craigslist and Evil Bay. One morning I woke up and looked at Craigslist and this bike was 10 miles from my house and bought it that day....

So don't give up!

The 500 in xc and wr in the year it was available had 39/70 primary gearing where the 430 only used that gearing in the air cooled ones. The 500 cr may have had the 33/76 not sure but it was different if the transmission was different the way I recall. The exhaust system and induction system had differences I would expect as well. While not technically the engine I realize.

These guys are saying craig list, think search tempest. What is a bucket list anyway. It isn't brain bucket=helmet, perhaps parts bucket?

I know Jeff he bought my husky 98 250wr from me. I didn't know he has 430 parts.

I miss those 12am rides on that street legal 98/250wr. I would one wheel it past the Harley bar. I miss that bike it was a babe magnet any age babe liked the colors on that bike.

Funny how songs stick in your head while your riding and racing.

We always had a tradition to play Neil Young songs going to the races back in the day.
My son and I still keep this tradition.
This song got stuck in my head one time racing.

I was racing and was flying across a creek with a wheelie going. I would slam into the bank and just bounce up the bank and just sail. On one lap as I wheelied across the creek. My rear tire hit a rock under the water and kicked my back end out. So, as my front end came down, I new I was in trouble and was going to hit a dug out rut with front wheel, into the bank.
I real quick, moved back on the seat and kinda braced my self for full front impact. As I hit the bank, my knee snapped the left handlebar off. Yep, broke my knee. I bet it took 3 hours to get me the hell out of there. Kept saying, don't cut my pants or boot off. I laid in that creek biting on a stick, till my knee went numb.
So all I could do was play this song in my head.

Thanks for the offer but I'm ok now I have my winter projects. My 84/250 wr is going to be rebuilt and restored as my limber up ride first. I'm old and slow but I can twist it.

My arms are recovering strength wise. I lost a lot of muscle do to cancer but I'm ok now.
I'm going to ride again.
