  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Gimme the skinny on these fork guards :)

Hey guys, I am new to Husky's but just purchased a 2010 TXC 450. It needs all new plastics so I ordered an aftermarket kit, but it doesn't come with Fork Guards. Ive been searching this forum and thumper for clues as to which fork guards cross over. So far I can see that the wrap around KTM or GasGas ones fit, but I have heard some Honda crf guards fit and possibly some Yamaha's that have KYB front ends?

Does this sound right to you? I just want to make sure before I buy a pair online.

Thanks for your help

Welcome!

I'll move this over to 4st where your question will get the attention it deserves.

I've heard the same thing about the Honda ones. If you're going for the full wrap, get the Gas Gas ones because they can be removed without removing the fork.

Hi Dietz, the wrap around KTM type fork guards are nice and offer increased protection. I would recommend the Polisport version (same as GASGAS), since they unclip at the back, allowing for easy removal. I have a brand new pair of these Polisport guards in white for sale. The package has been opened but the guards have never been used or even mounted. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I'm hoping for some black ones, so GasGas is out. I do know that the 2007+ KTM ones fit, but the only down side is I'll be teased by all my KTM riding buddies if they notice! lol I was hoping to avoid all that and get a set of Honda or Yammy if I could.

I have the Ktm fork guards- Acerbis: no one is the wiser... cept' all you guys

Those are on my 09TE450 with marzocci 50's- the oem guards shattered- these appear to protect a bit more- but are too tight to use seal savers (FYI).
These do NOT open up at the back and must be installed with the tubes off the bike (sliding them down)- little more of a hassle compared to the GG ones that open.

^^ That looks great. I definitely wouldn't be mad if I had to settle for those. lol

Do you think I'd get away with seal savers on some 48mm forks?

In theory you should be able to use them if you choose- since I am sure the KTM guys used them with their 48mm WP forks. With the full wrap arounds it seems like you have less need for seal savers- similar but different type of protection. More crud seems to deflect away with these. I don't miss not using seal savers. The ones with velcro are thicker and will make it an even tighter fit. Seal savers themselves open debates- some say they wear the smooth surface- some say that's why you clean them. If you just put them on and don't look back I do think you are open to problems. Hense- make sure getting them on and off is not so much of a hassle that you talk yourself out of cleaning them.

I am fine going without seal savers- I have a perfect excuse not to... My seals are safe anyway... I only changed seals once but that was because I dented an outer tube....
