  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I have a 12 on the front and a 50 on the rear... 1st. gear it feels like you could step off of the bike and wallk along side it!!! It tops out about 61-62mph and the RPMs are bout 5800... Any idea on which way to go on getting this set up for the woods and tight technical stuff??? :D

Though bout bumping the front to an 13?

Your first sentence doesn't jibe with your second sentence, you may be kidding with one or the other, but I'm not real good with e-humor. I know that if you go to a 13 t CSS, your RPMs at 62 MPH will be about 5300, and in 1st gear, you'll have to walk a little faster alongside the bike.

I have issues with bothe posts..... On my TE 511 , 13-51t it is way over 7k at 61-62mph and my 1st gear is a slightly fast walking pace.... I would think the big bikes tranny is slightly wider ratio .

I run 12/50 on my 11 250. Id like to go steeper by just a little for slower speed average enduros but the 12/50 is perfect for std speed average.

i run 12/50 on my 08 te510 and it works great in the hilly, rocky, rooty terrain i ride. its definately not a pleasure to ride on the pavement with that low gearing but its great on the tight technical stuff. i would say if you are going to do more roads/fire roads/etc, than go up to a 13 or 14 tooth front sprocket. but if you want a bike for technical riding, than stick with the 12/50 combo.

I read the RPM comments in several gearing threads. How do we know what the RPM's are when the bike has no tach?

14/50 (not the 13/50) on my 2008 TE250 and it's about 50 and 6200.

No 12 for me.

ETA my 2012 TE310 has the stock 14/40 and sets around 6200 @ 60 mph

The Vapor is a handy tool! Sorry if it doesn't make sense to all but I'm looking for info on which way to go on this BIG 510**************************************** 1st. gear is to low for my liken.... I think it could be a little bit taller. Always glad I can get the answers I need on here!!!

I just looked on the Trail Tech and the MPH was 55.8 and the Tach was 8740 at the EOD on Sunday!!! So I guess I did write it down,or my Comp. is wrong!!

Thanks Guys......

i also find first very low and thats why i start off in second when on flat ground. first works perfect through the rocky tight single track and going up steep hills though. its a trade off, you just have to decide what you want the bike to be better at and go with it.

my 2008 has one, stock.

I run 14/50 off road and 15/50 playing around on the back roads. Still not highwayable in my book. I want to get a 48 for the back then maybe run 13/48 off road and 15/48 on road. Plus I want a Gutz soft seat, but hell, I never ride the thing :(

The gutz soft seat is the best......

I went to put on a 13 front last night and it won't work do to the chain being to short. The previous owner must have shortened the chain...... :-( Guess I'll have to buy the works and replace it all with 14/48 and see how that works.....

14/50 and while your spending the money add a Recluze clutch to keep it ridable in the woods if you are used to the 12/51. Good luck and have fun.

after getting the rekluse put in, i don't think i need the 12/50 anymore. i'm going to give the 13 a try. that should take the abruptness out of first gear and make it more useable. i sure liked how the 12/50 tractored through the rocky and hilly stuff though.

I rode about 30-40 miles of typical fire road here in Big Bear with the stock 14/40 2012TE 310 gearing. No issues as their was very little steep or difficult. Practiced riding as much as possible seated. Probably only a few areas that were steep and twisty enough to use a little lower gear and the compression braking. Didn't even get out of 5th gear in town.
