  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Gearing for single track on WR300

Hey guys i hope im not hijacking the thread to bad but im at 15/48 and i can just about hit 45mph! does that sound right? i thought id get a little more out of her when i changed the front sprocket. btw those trails do look badass:thumbsup:

What Eagle free said. You should be able to do 80 or 90 mph with that gearing on a 300. I've pulled over 70 mph with 13:50 on my 300 (and had smoke coming out of the silencer afterward from burning off all the spooge in it). Hee hee.

For PNW woods riding on my '11 wr300, which is what I ride 90% of the time, I've been using 13:50 for years but rarely ever use 1st as it's too jumpy. Most single track is somewhere in 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th if it open up. For desert riding I go w/14:50 for a little wider spread. However, I kept the 14:50 gearing for yesterday's Sparkplug Enduro at Tahuya, which is lots of tight single track in the woods (I did the Desert 100 the weekend before and didn't have time to switch back to 13:50) and think I'm going to keep it there for more woods riding as it felt smoother and less jumpy in the tighter stuff and I didn't need to change gears as often with the wider spread. 1st still had plenty of pull, but a little less jerky than w/the 13:50.

I also run 13:50 most of the time for tight single track. 14-50 is also great all around. The motor has plenty of pull to still lug and not stall down low and requires less shifting as it spreads out the gearing a little. I used to run 14-50 or 14-48 in the desert without any issues at all.

I should add that I run a Rekluse Z-Start Pro, high comp head, gnarly pipe and the kehin PWK ASII, so plenty of bottom to mid for the 13:50 and 14:50 gearing w/no fear of stalling. It lugs like a tractor (or one of the 4 strokes bikes I've heard about :)) when I want it to.

The 12 front and 50 rear sprockets arrived the other day from Supersprox. Work's been busy, so no time to try them out yet. I'll start with the 12/48 combo first, then try 13/50, and finally 12/50. I'll have little time to ride before my trip to West Virginia, but I'll eventually post back with my impression with the different cogs on the WR.

Thanks again for all your input.

Heath
