• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Gear shift lever; common replacements?

Hi does anyone know if the gear levers from any common MX or Enduro bikes fit around a 610's generator cover? Failing that can anyone tell me if this fits:

This has been discussed before and as far as I know there is no plug and play direct swap-out. Some have made others fit by bending etc but most often guys have just changed out the tip which seems to be the weakness (for Hammerhead options mostly). The advantage of the OEM is that it is steel and thus strong unlike many alu ones.

Thanks for the help but it is the splines that have worn out on mine resulting in a sloppy shifting action meaning I have to replace the whole lever, not just the bit on the end. I have gone ahead and ordered the one I linked to but I am afraid it might be completely wrong.

If it just needs some grinding to make it fit I am up for that but if the offset is wrong it might not fit at all which obviously would be bad.

May be you know it, but the main reason why splines get worn out is because the lever is not strongly tightened to the axle (there’s a clearance between the axle splines and the lever splines). Take a look to this in the future…

Indeed - that slop wears the splines and you are lucky if it is the shifter splines and not the shaft splines that are fubar.

Yes-that was what prompted me to change it after some guys I met at the local play area were trying out my bike and mentioned it. As far as I can tell replacing the shifter shaft is just a 1/2 hour job so it won't be too much of a disaster even if it does need replacing but I hope to have caught it in time.

Right, the aftermarket lever arrived.

First impressions, man this thing looks trick! Super light weight as well, why aren't OEM parts this good? All for £16.

It is slightly shorter than the standard lever by 2.5cm, but I reckon it will clear the generator cover. Gonna go down to the garage tonight and see if it fits on, hopefully it will and I will update with pics in situ.

For now, a comparo:

Nope, splines are different. A shame because the new leaver does look real nice and it's so light weight.

So it's back to square one again. No one seems to make a nice aluminum aftermarket leaver for a 610.
