• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Garmin GPS Map60CSx..$199 at REI

First, let me apologize for hijacking this thread. BUT, I do want to learn more about this topic.

I know as much about the Sierra Club as ya'll know about the Sons of the Confederate :D It's fact that REI is a strong supporter of the Sierra Club.....

"REI is proud of its history of support for programs of the Sierra Club that protect and preserve wild places........."
- David Jayo, REI

What I'm not too sure of is the Sierra Club's stance on land use related to dirtbikes. I think I know what it is (I'm sure we could all guess) but I don't have any first hand experience with it and I don't like basing my opinions on hearsay. Anyone? :excuseme: I mtn bike, hike, camp, ski....so I like REI....but I haven't purchased anything from there in years.

BTW, that is a great price for a great GPS

I've been trying to map out my areas I ride, but they are heavily treed-- I can't get a signal most of the time. Do some GPS's work better than others for getting a signal?

EDIT: Never mind. Google is my friend-- guess I've been too lazy to look it up.

If you will be using a GPS receiver in all types of terrain and potentially under dense tree canopy, you should always purchase a 12 channel parallel receiver. Remember, the more channels or satellites a receiver can monitor, the greater the accuracy you will get from your unit. Also, I highly recommend you include a Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) which is a data correction process that applies the proper correction to data going into your receiver.

REI probably has more in common with PETA than the AMA or CORVA but neither they nor the Sierra Club are the devil incarnate. OK, possibly they're the handmaidens.;)

For $20, maybe Cabela's would be the better choice...politically speaking.

I resisted getting another one but I did look at the kayaks.

Cabela's is the better deal as it comes w/the Topo DVD. You really need the better map.And for $20 it's a steal.

Brandon...what model do you have?
F2G,
I don't know where it is-- it's packed away in a hunting pack somewhere, but...... I can tell you what's on order

glangston-- thanks for starting this thread... I think. Ya' just cost me a couple hundred.

the free topo stuff isd as good or better than the garmin one IMHO. Wish i could find a free streets one for mine.
