  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Haven't been able to be on here much the last few months, so thought I'd give an update to recent mods done to my '05 TE510.
  • R&D FLEX-JET Remote Fuel Screw:
I've ran the Kouba Brass Extended T-handle fuel screw on my bikes for many years.
This last spring coming back toward the truck after 60 miles of high desert whoops, sandwashes and trail, the bike started running weird and died every time chopped the throttle..........the dang fuel screw fell out.
I had been messing with it early in the day, adjusting for temp/area as I always do, but this time I must have had it a bit too far out and by end of ride it vibrated out and was gone.

Stopped in a couple bikes I drove past, but all they had were the cheap aluminum replacements that I do not like.
The second shop also had one R&D Flex-Jet and offered me a good price, so I bought it.
Nice product. Doesn't turn as smooth as the other extended types, but turn knob is in better location and keeps fingers away from hot engine........and.......can't lose it.

It comes complete with spring, washer and o-ring, which for some stupid reason; most of the other extended fuel screws do not come with.
  • HIGH FLOW WATER PUMP:
In long past posts I've mentioned replacing stock radiator cap with a CV4 20psi and having to replace the coolant catch tank cap because inside seal in old one actually melted.
(if curious http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/possible-bad-radiator-cap.4394/#post-56022 )

Well, some of our slow tight steep rocky technical trails are still not the 510's happy place, and it will show its displeasure by puking coolant.
For whatever reason, I've been stubborn about adding a fan, but thought I'd look into the high flow water pump I read posts about.

I think it lists as for a 2009-2010 TE's, but is exact fit for the '05 too.
Comes with much improved impellor and housing, but not the o-ring, so you need to reuse old one or get new.......Quick, simple install.
First ride I gave it a work out on higher rpm 1st-2nd gear, long steep twisty climbs and lugging behind friends crawling thru tight bush chokes switchbacks on smaller bikes.

I like it. Bike of course still gets a little hot in those conditions, but the higher flow really helps; now only getting some small dribbles..........think I burped out 1/2 cup by end of day.
