I am currently looking at purchasing a 2013 Terra with 12,000 miles (pretty high).

I am just wondering if there are any items I need to be sure and check before I make the purchase?

Any help would be appreciated as I have read most of the threads on this bike here and at advrider and just feel a little overwhelmed with information.

Here is a list of the mods and farkles already on/in the bike

Extras:Husqvarna windscreen, kouba lowering link (stock included) BR Moto rear side racks, ALT Rider crash bars, BMW hand guards, Touratech bash plate (with custom extension), touratech rear rack.
Mods: Pod mod (uni filter), eruption spoofer, fuel cap fix, new RK chain.

The main issues have been addressed. The spoofer may or may not stop the lean stumble. That doesn't mean it's a bad engine or TB it just means you have the stumble. Wheel bearings are the only other biggy and can be addressed easily and cheaply when you change tires. If you have the stock top rack, you will need to upgrade or your load and the rack will be found miles behind you someday. 12k isn't bad on this Rotax engine. Valve checks at 10k have revealed little movement I am opting not to check valves until 20k unless the bike begins to start hard. Good luck. It's a great bike.

Based on the mods I would think they were a cafehusky member or at least adv member. Have not seen anything wrong with the fuel cap though to be a fix. I would replace all the wheel bearings as they been proven to be very cheap from BMW. Also change spark plugs. Make sure you gap them as they do not come from NGK gapped to our specs. I have 13k miles and once you remove the emissions canister it helps with stalls tremendously. See if valves have been checked or adjusted. Other than that the mileage should not be a problem. We have not seen it yet but many riders under the belief this will be a 100k mile bike.

I would presume this relates to removing the fuel tank breather hose check valve in the fuel cap, which has caused a problem for a few people.

I feel like he is asking a lot for a bike with 12,000 miles. He is asking $5500 but there is a 2014 with almost 600 miles and just a fewer amount of mods for $5800. Is he way off the mark with his price? The 2013 is much closer and way more convenient to get to.

12 K isn't much, especially having the mods done already. If the airbox was stock, I would have some concerns and would want to scope the throttle body.

The Terra's seem to be holding value better than the Strada's.

The terra's do hold better value because the Strada's did not really sell out like the Terra's. Plus there was huge discounts on the strada's. Although, the guy in the other thread just bought a brand new Terra.

$5815 is nada value resell. Honestly I do not think the miles makes much of a difference. Year will make a difference though. Although I would really look into whether it is a 2104 model as they were all made in 2103. So some have lasted into 2014 but unless it says it on the bike or vin I would treat it as a 2013 as well. Some one correct or prove me wrong if this not the case. Maintenance records will tell you if the bike is worth it. Oil changes every 3k miles, air filter has been changed as well as spark plugs at 10k miles. New or worn tires. The pod mod you mentioned should keep the resell value because it is close to stock as well. This bike has to be some one here because not many went that route as it costs more and more time. You can always offer a different price and negotiate the best deal. I would love to see both sell for $5500. This is a limited edition rare bike. Most of the time that helps resell value too. The demand has to be there for it to help resell though. I am going to be selling mine in a couple months and I would take $5k in a heart beat just to push it for a KTM 1190 adventure R. That is a 15k bike though.

I have considered selling mine. I think $5500 is reasonable with the accessories installed. There must be $1k or there about, and that means the Terra is $4500. And the add ons are not frivolous ones, they are good mods.
Anyway, when I tried to put a number on mine to sell, then go get a different bike, my number had to be near $6k and I don't have some of the mods.

Then after test riding the other bikes, decided to keep the Terra. It just does so good on the road, being 400+lbs. And still does the dirt roads fine. I have come to accept it is not the do-all bike, and got a little bike for the fun trails. I think a scrambler type would suit me well, something lower to the ground. That is my only real grip at this time. That bike with the features of the TR650 does not exist at this time.

In all my dealings with buying and selling, I have found there is wiggle room. That is at the discretion of the seller. If you are nice and it feels like my bike is being appreciated, I am willing to cut some slack.

The 2013 starting asking price from a couple months back was $5800 and it hasn't sold. There did not seem to be a lot of interest in the bike so I was just making sure I wasn't missing something that others had seen.

I would love to be able to afford to get an 1190R but if I did I would also need to be able afford a woods bike. I think the Terra is a good on/off road compromise. Especially at this price point.

I agree fence jumper. For me I do 98% road a few adventures a year plus the misses likes to ride I am 6'2'" 240 and even though she is 100lbs bike gets a little cramped. She wants a bigger bike have to accommodate that and get the best out to make it work as far as she is convinced. lol Also accesories I would think like cars really do not add resell value. That is why I do not want to dump $1200 for power commander auto tune and pipe to resell.

That bike with the features of the TR650 does not exist at this time.

Have you considered the Seat Concepts low seat?

I agree, there isn't another bike with the real features and attributes of the Terra at this time. The KTM 690 comes sorta close but isn't anywhere near as comfortable and is about $4k more.

I bought the Terra on that basis, waiting for the mythical smooth twin ADV style bike to come along and getting frustrated. Honestly, after riding the Terra I think it would have to be a very good twin with some careful engineering when it comes to weight to get close to the Husky as it is.

I've ridden most all of the larger ADV bikes currently in the market plus the Triumph Scrambler. Nothing approaches the Husky when it comes to decent power, reasonable weight, very low vibrations, pretty good handling in the dirt with a "dirt bike" feel, plus a nice freeway experience once you add some wind protection.

I'd say the Tiger 800 comes the closest and adds 75 lbs but feels much more large ADV bike than dirt bike. The new Ducati Scrambler might be a pretty nice option but won't come close to the Terra in the dirt. The Triumph Scrambler 900 actually makes less power than the Husky and is 100+ lbs heavier and has VERY old school suspension. It's a cool bike, but when I test rode it my thought was it's pretty wheezy on performance in a big way, all the way around. The KLR is even more wheezy.

My initial pick was the Tiger but it was just too big and heavy for what I wanted especially considering I have the Stelvio already. But..... if I had to have only 1 bike in the garage right now it would be a Tiger 800XC and part of that is I do a fair amount of 2 up riding. If I were only doing solo riding the Husky would probably cover it.

There is a surprising lack of options in this niche and I agree with the above assessment. The other contender that I have never owned but would like to is the Husky TE630 - on paper it looks great, there seem to be many satisfied owners and they are IMO one of the best looking bikes around. The KTM 640 also had a lot of potential but were let down (again in my opinion and experience) but reliability issues and massive vibration compared to the TR.

I don't hold out a great deal of hope for new products that meet the criteria of low weight Adv bikes with decent power and good reliability given that KTM has absorbed both Husky and Husaberg and it's still all quiet on the Japanese bike front. KTM seems hellbent on high performance, high maintenance machines with the attendant reduction in longevity and reliability.

I was just checking out the MotoGuzzi V7. Less than 400lbs, shaft drive. Not a scrambler. The

Ducati scrambler, you need to get on a waiting list for them already,and won't be out until spring from what they say.

Speaking of Ducati. They did bring the variable valve timing to motorcycles this year. This might make a single cylinder even easier to tune smooth and powerful. Benefits of a small cam and large cam in one.
