  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

four stroke oils

What kind and weight are you guys running? Can I get away with using 50w instead of 60w?

Many many threads on "Oil"... Hell I think I've started a couple:D:D

The Consensus is 50w would be fine in place of 60w.

More important is a quality brand and to change it often.

Every 10 hrs is a good place to start.

yep ...good advise

Agip 10/60

I ran the Honda HP 10w 40 this weekend for the Enduro. Worked fine but I was not sure what Moly would do to the clutches. I ordered the AGIP from a place in NY. $122.00 a case. I going to stay with that stuff.

Golden Spectro Semi-Syn 10w40
Used this in my 4 stroke bikes for a lot of years, but will go to 20w50 if riding long/hard at temps in upper 80's/90's+

Anyone run the Agip 10w-60? A dealer near me stocks it but I never hear anything about it good or bad. The price is actually cheap compared to the other synthetics out there. Any test reviews on it?

Nothing Better.

If you can pick it up at a reasonably price...go for it.

Picked up a case when I bought my bike.

I bought a few cases of AGIP 10/60 last year when the exchange rate was on par....it was a good deal then

I wouldnt dare buy any now.....:jawdrop:

but if your in the states...go for it

OIL

Im running 20 50 Spectro Petroleum Blend for the first 800 miles then I will swith to 20 50 Spectro Synthetic Blend

I run Motorex synthetic 10W-50 without any problems. The 10W-60 is recommended for racing use only. You'll get hundreds of different responses to this question. Use a good quality oil and change it often.

Waiting 800 miles before changing to Spectro synthetic oil, is that the normal operating procedure? I just past the 75 mile mark want to change the oil asap. thanks

I'll answer this regarding my bike at least.

I used a gallon of petroleum oil for the first 4 oil changes, then switched to semi synthetic. I changed my oil frequently at first then finally settled in at a 3-400 mile oil change interval.

Lots of bits of orange stuff comes out at the first few oil changes.

Coffee's info is pretty much the same as George's (Uptite). George definitely wanted to change the oil in my bike before 100 miles. I changed it after that (250mi and 400mi) till 600 miles, where he checked the valves and re-torqued the head and we did the power up kit.

I watched George do the valve adjustment on a 250 yesterday and it was pretty slick and looked exactly like Coffee's video.

Troy, I bought a case of AGIP 10/60 before I decided to use Spectro. If you or anyone wants to buy it I'll make the case comparable to Spectro, and pay the shipping. $8 a liter.
