  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Found screen when removing packing...is this needed?

Well...I am slowly getting the bike cleaned up and rebuilt for upcoming season. Decided to check the packing of the stock can and noticed the packing was pretty saturated, black and about 1/4 gone. In disassembling parts and cleaning I noticed a screen that is between mid pipe and muffler. Is this needed? Is this considered the "Spark Arrestor". Thanks in advanceIMGP3118.JPG

That COULD be described as a spark arrestor, if you were in forest lands, and got stopped, you'd say it was your spark arrestor, typically though, spark arrestor screens have to be smaller gauge screen to catch the smallest flaming pieces of metal.

Yup, it looks like my "spark arrestor" is a bit more of a crude variety. Will eliminate it. Question....having a hard time sourcing the proper repacking kit for this rather large OEM exhaust. Any recommendations?

Hey bud, when I shortened and re-did my smr pipe, I removed that, also cutting a larger hole in the end cap really made it flow properly! Also packed it with stainless scouring pads (thick stainless wire doughnuts) wrapped them around the center a bunch. Never needed repacking again!

What was the sound like? Any difference with the stainless vs. the fiberglass heat wise?

I just fired up the beast this am and found an amazing improvement in sound/dampening at idle with the Moose racing kit which included the steel wool and fiberglass wrap. A quick blip of the throttle brought it to LIFE....how many more weeks till winter is done???????
