  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

fork upgrade for a 77 cr250

Looking for some help. I want to install a set of husky 40mm forks on my 77 cr250
I know I have to reduce the travel on the 40mm forks but what about the triple clamps, rake and steering bearings? All info is appreciated.

The '77 uses loose ball bearings and a different size/length stem. It can be done, but requires some work changing races and making spacers.

Hello rainman i put a set of 40s on a 76cr frame.I took the tapered bearings off the trip tree and had bushings made to fit inside the 76 race and slide over the stem on the trip tree. I think the trip tree is off a 83 its the one that the handle bar mounts are angled back and the fork tubes can slide up past the bars I loaded the loose bearings with grease tightened everything up and it works great it feels different than stock forks but in a good way.

The set back mounts come on (I think) all 35 and 40mm clamps '83-earlier, I know my '77, 78, '82 and '83 all have them.

Set back mounts cramp the cockpit if you are tall. I swap mine out for the vertical mounts and run the later model fork caps with recessed valves so you can slide the fork tube up until they hit the bars almost. Sweep back mounts clear the bars away from the fork tubes.
