    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Fork Guards Wearing Upper Tubes-'08TE450

I noticed that the lower plastic fork guards were starting to wear a groove thru the snap ring (called the "stop ring" in the parts catalog) located on the lower part of the outer fork tube. It looks as though this "stop ring" is sacrificial - it's there to keep a wayward plastic guard from contacting the outer fork tube? Anyway, had the fork guard continued rubbing, by the looks of things it would've eventually worn quite a groove in my outer tube(s)!

I fixed it by loosening the fork guard screws, bending the guard and outward and holding it, then re-tightening them. Looks like it will work. I'll keep an eye on it. Anyway, a heads-up.
 
Yep, same issue here. Oregon Trail had Les at LTR build him some cool nylon rings for the fork. i asked him about producing them but would cost to much. Maybe we could retro fit something off another brand?
 
same issue here last fall... I was able to replace the "snap ring" by placing an order with Halls.
 
Same problem here. For an immediate temporary fix I used a heat gun towards the bottom of the guard and bent it forward. I also used a couple of wraps of black duct tape.
Long term I am looking into a plastic or nylon bushing like the Japanese bikes use.
 
I got one of Les's last pair of protectors that he had. You might want to look into using a large zip tie as a temporary fix. Would make a good little item for a Certain Shop to sell...hint hint..
 
I know its foul language but KTM ones fit and do a nice job. I had exactly the same problem as you describe. You can get them in black or white. I used them last year on my 08 and have a new packet in the kitchen ready for the 09.
 
I think there are some for the GasGas which has Zokes, but they are for 45's. TW

Are you guys talking about the gray fork protectors that clamp onto the bottom of the outer tube like a pinch clamp? I replace those every season and I have never had any issues with wear on my outer tubes. I do have 45mm Zokes that might be the difference?

No such protection on the '08 TE's 50mm Zokes

I have just purchased a set of polisport KTM copies, the full wrap around fork guards. They clip on rather than slide over. Hoping they will stop this.
Proud owner of a new 09 TE510, undergoing a transformation; WER, Samco hoses, Tireballs, Mecca skid, Factory forks and full Fr & Rr revalve!
Happy bunny but havent riden it yet :(

Where did you order these from?

I am also interested in the clips for the 610. What do those run?
 
I've been using Seal Savers and two industrial sized zipty's per fork leg. They dont last as long as the factory guides but the're not too expencive either. TW

I am in the UK, I just got them from the Polisport supplier. Can you get Polisport in the US?
I can ship you a set but postage may be costly. They only fit the 50mm forks not the smaller 610 forks. I have an old pair of the grey plastic guides if you want a set from my WR250...

going from the spec sheet, SM has 45mm & TE610 has 50mm :excuseme:
 
I'm having the same trouble with my 2008 CR 125 with the 45mm Zokes. I repositioned the guard forward by hot gluing a couple washers under the front bolt holes and hogging out the side bolt hole to allow a little forward rotation. Worked great for the intitial rubbing spot, but now the section which carries the brake line clip is rubbing the back of the fork upper on big hits. I rotated it a bit too far forward. I might take a little heat to the guard and reshape that spot slightly.

Interestingly, in a side-by-side comparison my 2007 TE 250 with the exact same guard LOOKS straight, and the CR guard looks warped--the CR's front hose hold-down is more to the wheel side of center. The TE's is centered on the guard. Weird. I wonder if there was a bad batch of Zokes guards...?
