  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FMF Power Bomb header

Pro Class
Anybody tried an FMF power bomb header on their 250 '10+ X-lite motor yet ?

My TC has a nice silencer so I'm leaning toward just doing a steped header pipe for now anyway.

I have a FMF power bomb header on my '10 TXC 250. Overall I like it and I think I gained a little boost on the bottom. I still can't figure out how that could be with how small the "Boost Chamber" is compared to a mega bomb. I am running the Leo Vince silencer and I did have to trim about 1/8" off the end of the header to get everything to line up. Not sure if I would have had that problem using the stock or FMF silencer.

We have just changed our teams Akraprovic exhausts on all of purr bikes for the FMF power bomb 4.1 factory system...Wonderful power, breathes even better, great smooth power, highly recommended!!!

FMF only made the powerbomb header for the TXC/TE, due to limited room with the EFI bung. When I picked up my TXC at FMF, they had a TC there to R&D, so maybe they made a megabomb header from that. If they did, then it should bolt right up.

The differneces are the powerbomb gives better mid to top end and the megabomb increases low end.

A megabomb would definately be the ticket. The 4.1 shows a significant top end power increase on the dyno. I am currently running the Q4 and have not bolted up the 4.1 Ti yet to try out. I just left my Q4 on there for now. I have not reflashed my ECU, but funny thing, the Q4 took the low end bog out of my bike.

Hope this helps.

Mitch

What are you planning to do with your Akros?

Well, I put my FMF 4.1 Ti on today (powerbomb header), no SA installed....WOW, what a major improvement over the Q4 (with SA). Dont get me wrong, the Q4 is a nice exhaust, its quiet and makes the bike seem like an electric motor....really smooth, really easy to ride on nasty stuff without wearing you out. It will still come to life though, you just have to work it a little more (Like riding a 125 2smoker).

With the 4.1 its louder, but not obnoxious...It runs harder and stronger all thru the range. Bottom end is stronger. That off idle hesitation is noticeable again though. Played with the efi and cleaned it up a bit. Going in tommorrow to get the ecu reflashed, so that should take care of that.

If your not a racer or just play ride and maybe worried about sound output and not really worried about a little loss in snap, then I would suggest the Q4.

The 4.1 definately wakes the bike up.

OK, I got one and it's going back. The fit and finish are awful. It's too long, the header bolts are too short and it practically lays on the frame and skid plate in the front. The flange collar was trying to seize in the port and the weld there was huge.

After about a half hour of screwing with it I put the stock header back on in about 2 minutes, with the muffler on. Something you can not do with the FMF.

No thanks. You got to do better than that if you want to charge $200.00 for some stainless tube.

Motorhead, you should talk to FMF about it as well. They need to know. I bit the bullet and sawed off a 1/8 of an inch on the end of my FMF to make it work. I had the Leo Silencer so I was not sure if it would fit with the stock silencer. My FMF does hang lower but it is not touching anything and I had no problem with the header bolts.

I got it straight from FMF, so they are going to hear about it. I use to saw things off and do whatever to make it fit, and I still do on some things, but I'm not going to do it on a $200 header.

OK, a buddy of mine has talked me into keeping the header and fixing it to fit right, so we can do some testing.

I guess I've claimed down because I have given in, only because I like to test different stuff, anyway.

He's a big FMF fan, BTW.
