  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

First Ride 2011 TC250

Husqvarna
AA Class
Picked up a 2011 TC250 and figured I'd share my impression as when I researched that model there was basically no feedback anywhere. Anyway I had a 2010 TC250 so I do have a base to go off of as far as how the updates and changes work in comparison to last years model.

First off the obvious differences to the naked eye are that it comes this year with a new header pipe and a real Akro exhaust. Also as everyone knows gone is the finicky carb of the '10 replaced by the Mikuni FI system. There are reinforced footpeg brackets on the frame. Mine came with Michelin starcross tires instead of last years Pirellis. Internally there are suppose to be some engine updates but I'm not in the know on what if any they are. Suspension wise it comes with the KYBs on the front and a Sachs rear shock same as last year. Shock spring is 5.4. I could be wrong but it looks to me like the rear linkage is a bit different but I no longer have my '10 to compare it too to confirm this. Ok enough with that and on to my riding impressions....

Engine: In one word "Wow". What a difference a year makes! I don't know if it's the Akro,FI or supposed internal updates but this baby rips! It is so free revving and lively in comparison to last years model. It has instant throttle response and the FI worked flawlessly and based on my impressions of this system on the TXC,TE models I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. Starting was easy and consistent. I dropped it in a rut when two riders went down in front of me and it started on the second kick after I picked it up and pushed it out of harms way and found neutral. Transmission shifted flawlessly and the clutch worked equally as well. All in all if you have a '10 do not ride an '11 or your checkbook might get hurt. I've ridden an '11 KX250F and the Husky is more then up to the job motorwise this year.

Handling/Suspension: Typical light feeling like last years model and it's very stable and turns with the best of them. Nothing to complain about here and it's so easy to throw it around that it's confidence inspiring. I just backed off the compression on the forks a couple of clicks and slowed down the rebound on the rear shock a bit and set the sag at 100mm and I have no complaints. I'm sure as I get time on it I may adjust or fiddle with the clickers but I can't see any revalves or spring changes in my future. Sticks nicely in the ruts which there were many of today and is very willing to cut the inside line with very little input. Overall a very solid nimble handling ride.

Misc: Brakes were great and had good feel and both ends felt good and strong. Seat height in typical Husky fashion is on the tall side but once underway I really never noticed it. Ergos worked well for me. It's nice and slim and I like the seat and the controls are effortless and well placed once adjusted for personal preference. Michelins worked great for our east coast sand loam mixture. Went over the bike prior to riding it and I'm happy to say nothing came loose or needed attention during the day.

Overall: I must say it's a shame there is no tests/reviews or real world feedback on the '11 TC250 as it's a big step up from the '10 in motor alone and as a total package it's a great bike that deserves major props this year. If you're in the market for a 250F by all means put this baby on your radar as it's got to be one of Husky's best kept secrets this year!

There are few things better than buying a new bike and it exceeds your expectations. Riding becomes a thing of glee, of shit eating grins and golden moments.

So... no hot start issues as have been reported by another forum member???
Rumor has it the 2012's may have Keihin EFI. If that's true, and they actually supply the USA with 2012 bikes in the 2012 season, we may be back in the Husky race business in the fall!

probably no press because i am told less than 20 came to the US this year

we did not get one for our shop this year

i am going to make sure we get a 2012

sounds like a sweet machine and i am sure you are going to enjoy it.

I suppose they weren't looking to market here in the good ole US with those import numbers but it's a shame really as it's quite the machine this year after last years missteps with the starting and uninspiring engine performance.
All I can say again what a difference a year makes. If this years effort is any indication then the '12 model will be highly sought by the Husky crowd!

From what i can make out they only seem to have made a few worldwide. The UK only got 6, and apparently 5 went to teams. Mine was ordered by a team then cancelled due to budget. I cant find any market where they seem to have had a bulk of them or where theyre in stock. Think we have a future rarity on our hands! Totally agree with everything you'ver posted. The bike has totally exceeded all my expectations and im so glad i bought it. Everytime i ride it i love it that bit more. My only complaint is that the rear suspension linkage has play after only 6 hours or so, which is poor. Also had to fit an exhaust guard to stop my kit melting to the exhaust and roost denting the pipe

Great ride report and thanks for taking the time to do it. I would rather read a bike ride report from a fellow member than any mag test pilot. We still love our 2010, after proper jetting (thanks Hall's), and LeoVince exhaust but the 2011 sure sounds like it's out of the crate ready. Thanks.

Glad you like your 2011 and maybe I should not ride one, but my 2010 usually starts first kick and has instant throttle reponse. I keep trying to imagine how a efi bike would feel better. Not sure what Kreig did to it, but he got it right!

Had it out for round #2 today and it's a shame they didn't bring more of this to market as this little bugger rocks. Just a really good package from the motor to the handling suspension etc.. The track was in great shape today not all bombed out and the dirt was really good so I'm sure that helps but I honestly can't say there's an area of the bike that needs improvement after todays ride.
Hopefully for the 2012 model year they step up production and distribution!

We have two '11 TCi250's sitting on the floor, I've only taken the opportunity heat cycle one of them and then ride it up and down the alley and across a field. I felt an improvement in that limited time, I'm sure the Akra has A LOT to do with it as the full Akra I just put on my Girlfriend's '11 TE250 made measureable low end gains and really makes the bike come to life.

Current rumor is indicating the newer cylinder head that's being raced in WEC won't be a production item until '13
