  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Id just thought Id introduce myself to this great little forum you guys have going here

Picked up an 08 model demonstrator which was bought new in August from Full Throttle ( oz largest Husky dealer )
I havent seen any of this year model on this forum so thought it may be of interest
I am not sure what the spec differences are on the motor to the 07 and 06 -slight differences?

Anyway we ve had a month of rain and untill yesterday I hadnt ridden the new bike and also hadnt ridden for 6 months since a big off on the YZ ( broken hand)
First bit of sun and we went up to the hills to see what trouble we could get into. Where we ride its very hilly ranforest and there is a very slippery red clay .
First of all the bike did seem to run more crisply than the 06 ( unless the 06 was on a good day)
It lugged better - no doubt . I had little trouble with the hills but did have to work quite hard to keep the power valve open. Fanning clutch
and changing down to first .
(I was bit rusty and had a few offs as well)
Coincidentally on the same day I rode an 09 yz 125 for a comparison. The extra power of the YZ is very noticeable and there is no doubt there is much better thottle response from down low. ( without the tractablilty if that makes sense) As the other fellow said he had to change down to first to stay in the band -when the yz would have been in second
The YZ turned better and felt plusher at the rear but I didnt like the feel of the front end ( stiff?) and felt i was going to come off - like I did on my old YZ. I preferred my WR and also like the feel of the engine better up top.

Back on the WR there was the occasional lean bog :banghead: Where the bike would have a quite large hesitation but it wasnt too annoying and I think you could live with it - unless it happens at the worst possible moment on the crest if a gnarly cliff! If a new carb fixes that issue then it will be a cheap fix
Anyway the bike isnt looking so good now as I stupidly flipped it after a celebratory wheelie and broke the rear guard off. We d ridden through 3 deep water crossings and I was wanting to make sure there was no water getting into the motor! duh
(And I was complaining that it was hard to wheelie!)

So after a six hour trail ride I am now feeling a bit sore but looking forward to the next one .

Bashy - yeh I was surprised to see the name wr125 on it
I was stoked when I picked up the bike after buying it without inspecting it on ebay
The pipe guard however proved its worth about three times in the one ride after aying it into a bank on drop it in the mud!
It also had fork bleeders and seal protectors which are quite cool
 
call me nuts but i like the old layout better than the '09. the '09 seat is too flat, too tall and the bar is too low. i'm still trying to find my sweet spot. the older layout is like an old shoe and just fits me better and with the guts racing soft foam im sitting more into it than on it.

180 degrees for me..... Coming from an '02 WR125, I think the '06-'08 set up is too tall and flat across the seat and the bars are too low. It's like a 2X6 in shape and feel. My '09 seat is softer and radiused edges make it more comfortable. With the spacers on the risers and Flex Bars my '09 is perfect, better than my '02. I rode fury1's '07 WR125/144 back to back with my '09 WR125 last Fall and it just confirmed what I always felt when I rode '06-08 125's. '09-'10 seems more like the '00-'05 125.

just sayin...stock out of the box for both? i liked the old one better. aint messed with the '09 layout yet, either. it's still box stock. just been doing little tweaks here and there trying to make it work as is. i do like the 09 seat, way comfy. too tall, flat, slippery though. could use a dip and im waiting on the lowered seat option from HV or might send mine to guts for a shave and fill and a more aggro cover. may make some 5mm bar risers/spacers too.

There are many differences to the state of tune between the WR and CR from Husky.....WR makes steady low end power...has to deal with more flywheel weight...different advance curve..o ring chain..heavier rolling mass in the rear rim tire combo...etc All aimed at making it a woods weapon.....

But between a CR and a YZ..theres not much in it....YZ has a bit more in the middle....CR a bit more on top

If Yamaha made a WR125..the effect would be the same

look- not trying to start a fight here. just telling you how i see the diff's between my two and the '09 has a taller, flatter, slipperier saddle and a lower bar when parked side by side wheels on the ground no side/center stand.

if you see it differently, so be it.

I think it depends on you body shape
I like the 07-08 layout better as well - compared to an 09 TE Ive ridden -new frame
