  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So after long deliberation between the tr650 and the te511 I pulled the trigger on the 511 today, I think it was the 1.9% financing! any advice out there? I know it's almost a sin but this will be used for commuting mostly and lots of gravel. Dealer is kind of a b.s.'er so i need help with breaking in the motor, as well as maintenance intervals, he said oil after 500mi, then every 1500 after and nothing special for break in because they are factory dyno'ed? Just seems to be incorrect, I am not a rich man so frequent oil changes are preffered to frequent engine rebuilds! I have been lurking on here for about six months, and based alot of my decision on what I have read here so opinions are appreciated -thanks

Sounds like your on the right track. I babied it for the first 50-60mi, then began with higher RPM variations. 200 mi for first oil change then at ~500 I switched to full synthetic. I change the oil and filter about every 300+/- miles.

I honestly think this engine takes a good 500-600 miles to really break in. My 449 just seemed to be much faster after that. Hoping to get my hands on a late model 511 to go with my 449. Not too hopeful this model will survive the new ownership.

I break-in in stages. 10%, 20%, 30%, 40, 50% of full power each time I ride it. I switch to full synthetic @ 30 miles. Most of your break-in metal wear comes out in the first thirty miles so it's good to get it out of there asap. Going 1500 miles to change the oil is way too long, half that max, especially if you are only running 800cc of oil. Filters and 10w40 oil is cheaper than rebuilds. I'd switch out your coolant for XF when you can, besides never overheating, there is no water/corrosion for the life of the bike with it.

thanks for the info, sound advice I rode for the first time today....in the rain but out here if not in the rain then not at all! Do you see better results with full syn.? the xf is the waterless kind? if so I was looking into that sound really good. The kickstand is a funny beast, some "clever" engineering went into that as it sprays mud all up the side of the bike, also is set up like a trip wire gauranteed to drop the the bike on some unsuspecting wife! I had to warn the whole family unit to stay away from "floppy". I look forward to really getting this thing dirty!
