  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any secrets to getting the filter out? Do I need to pull and clean both screens everytime after break-in period. Not much metal this time. Will Motorex Top Speed 4t 10-40 synthetic performance work for hot and humid summers we have? It is nice that the filter comes with all needed o-rings and crush washer. I love this site, I can ask all my rookie questions and get great feedback. Like having a mechanic on retainer:-) lol

The filter is a little tight huh. I use some needle nose pliers, close them, put the head inside the recess and open them and wiggle it out, Usually takes a few tries. A high power magnet works well too. I use a rare earth drain plug. Both methods work. As for the screen I usually do them the first time or two and then check them every few months or so as they usually have nothing in them. I will not comment on oil, thats a messy subject. :D Enjoy the bike, still much love for mine after 2500 hard miles. GREAT machine.

I use 15w50 synth in my Husky year round, I would never use 10w40 in the summer, I might try it in the winter, but I doubt it.

I have some of these handy to use if I encounter a sticky filter... I notice that I only really had trouble the first time. After that I could just insert pinky finger and the screen slid right out.

Thanks, the manual calls for 10-40. Most manufacturers give temp ranges. The husky manuals are roughly translated and not very complete. Not complaining, just sayin:-)

10w40 in hot weather i would not use. If you do you need to change frequently. ok for the winter below 32degrees but still change a lot. 20W50 Golden Spectro syn/blend is what I use but of course there are lots more. Plenty of discusions here on oil types. Be careful on 10W40.

Motul 7100 in 10W60 for moderate to warm weather conditions generally found in Australia.
In fact this oil viscosity rating will work in just about all weathers.

Another running motul 7100 10w60 here, change every 500km, filter every 1000km. SMR 511 seeing road and track use.

Not cheap, but with only a litre in there ya gotta look after ya toys :) Pity they don't sell it in 20L!
