    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hello!
I'm going to buy my first Enduro bike.
I've found a couple of objects but can't really decide and thats why I turn to you pro's for help :)

I'm about 180cm tall and my weight is around 72 kilos.


These are the bikes I'm looking at right now:

Will come with full equipment of clothes, protection, etc. (no boots)

Around 120 hours of time.

Pros:
Newer
New piston

Price: $2775

4# KTM 250 excf 2007
Around 100h of time.

Pros:
Newly done service

Price: $2292


What are your oppionions? I'm guessing that you will be a little of fan-boys of the Huskys but thats what I would expect when writing in this forum :D

They all look like good options and none of them are too expensive, so you're unlikely to make a serious mistake with any of them. I don't know the rules in Sweden, or how you plan to ride, but for me, having a license plate in California, and the ability to ride on the street to connect interesting sections of trails is important.

If I understand the model-year changes correctly, the 2007 TE250 is the last year of a pretty long run of very durable motors - and I've heard that the bottom ends of the engines from the 250 to the 510 were identical during those years -which makes the 250 virtually indestructible. While the power is less than the 450s or 510s of the same vintage, the 250s are competent bikes, will go anywhere (sometimes with additional coaxing), and are a pleasure to ride on all but the fastest terrain or roads. If it were my decision, and my first bike, I would go with the older TE250 because of the lower price, the gear included (that stuff can really add up if buying new), and the knowledge that the engine can be upgraded fairly easily, and relatively inexpensively, to about 300ccs (20% displacement increase) for more power if/when you want it.

I think you'd be happy with a Hooskvanna (I'm trying to write in English how it sounds to me in Swedish). Have fun deciding - and then riding. I'd say the most important thing is: get one of them, change all the fluids so you are sure about having a fresh start, and ride the hell out of it this summer. You can always sell it and buy a different bike after a season.

BTW - I am happy to be corrected if I anything I stated above is not accurate; I'm no expert on the model-year details, but I have ridden 250s, 450s, and 510s made in 2006-07.
 
Thanks for the answer Scud. I've gotten some more info about the 2007 bike and it seems like he didn't tell me the whole story about it. So now I'm looking at the 2010 and the Husaberg 125cc two-stroke.

You're welcome. My "answer" assumed good condition of all four bikes (similar hours on all). Of course, if one is not in good condition it should be avoided or bought for a much lower price so you can afford repairs.

I don't like it when people say "Husk-a-varna" - but many Americans do, because the "qv" combination does not occur in English.

Anyway - go get yourself a bike, even if it doesn't have a Swedish name on it. Hopefully some other people will chime in with some more advice for you.
 
The 2010 is a great bike but it has to be put together just right to run well. The E-start system is weak. Consider kick starting it unless you trail stall it and it should be good.

The 2007 is more reliable but heavier.
