  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Finally need a top end for 300-where to buy?

Riding today I opened up my 300 past 3rd gear and it was sputtering with just nothing there. I was like ok what the hell. Something going on with jetting all of a sudden? Down low from 1st to 3 rd gear its totally fine still though. Got home and did compression check. It maxed out to 30- lol. Yes 30. Its the original piston from stock and odo says 7659 so...

So...wheres a good complete kit to buy? I have seen some people buy off ebay and complain that not everything they needed was there. so....

Hell, check your local shop. Mine keeps top end rebuild kits in stock, has everything I needed, and surprisingly well priced (can't order it cheaper online).

With almost 8000 miles (300-400 hours?) on the original parts, and what sounds like a failure in a short time period, I'd tear it down before I ordered anything. You might need more than a piston and rings.

Bills. should be done about every 2000-2500 miles. Shame on you :D I bet it kicks like a 125, get ready to really kick it again.

No kidding. I rebuilt mine at about 110 hours and everything felt fine. Heck the cylinder still had all the honing marks on it and the piston looked fine. I was tempted to just put new rings in. Got it all back together and the kick was a lot harder, and all that power that I didn't realize I was missing.

you know its funny my friend with a ktm300 couldn't believe i went that far on original piston. Actually i think few believe me that i got that far on my stock piston. But theres a cr250 motor from the mid 90's at my dealer that has approximately 22,000 miles sign on it. These bikes are amazing

Since you're in North Bend call Jeff at Taskys in Everett. He'll set you up with a complete top end kit that includes a vertex b piston, rings, clips, and pin; an oem pin bearing that fits the vertex pin perfectly, oem base gasket, and oem o-rings for the head. My guess is about $200 to $250 for everything. That's what I went with when I replaced my top end at about 120 hrs last summer. So far so good. Get your cylinder cleaned of any carbon while you're at it. Hopefully it doesn't need replating.
