• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I believe Speedway bikes still run on NitroMethane which can easily load up. Running the bike leaning it over on right peg is a way to run the engine to build some heat in it to clear it out I believe.

Nitro? Pretty interesting ... Pretty interesting all-round if you look at how unique those bikes are made ... There are a few places you see them drive off the track and even then the riding style looks a little funky ...

The final and semis were pretty cool ... And then the winner of course starts popping wheelies on the track ...

I like that camera work right down on the starting line also .... You can almost feel how intense it is when they are sitting behind that fancy rubber-band starting gate.. even the gate picking was pretty cool ... ~19 heat races? Beer in the stands? I'd go to one of these races ...:)
 
That engine does not look that big really and I guess his foot is on the outside peg? No front brake heheh ....

No brakes at all ray ray. The older Jawa 500cc engines had the cylinder standing straight up and down, now they lean forward. The town I grew up in Castro Valley Ca. had a shop called "The Wheel Works" he laced motorcycle wheels and the owner was a World Champion speedway racer. He had a gold plated trophy bike he was awarded in his front window for awhile back in about 74'. He actually used it for competition after pulling it down from that window.
Leading link front ends have been used in speedway competition for along time now.
 
These guys like the slanted sitting engines ... They seem to think it handles better :)

2 wheel speedway is cool. I have gone a watched a bunch of events. These guys in this video are always a show. New Zealand sidecars doing speedway.

Probably a fore-gone conclusion that there is gonna be some bumping and rubbing in the 1st corner ...
 
Sorry ray ray, the guys don't get away running any Nitromethane mixed with there fuel anymore. I believe it was always illegal. Straight methanol nowadays is the fuel of choice. I've watched these guys for years and they get down in Poland, Latvia, Belgium, Russia and all over Europe. I think this kind of racing started in Australia.

I have a couple of mates that race these (We're in Australia). Also the foot peg on the right is sort of like a pivot peg for us. It swings back and forth.
 
the leading link forks came in the 90's they steer more precise then the twisty old conventional forks. straight methonal. you have to wash the carb out after a nights racing. really eats up the alum .... the laydown engines handle a lot better, worth approx 2 bike length on every straight. add it up on a 4 lap race you are almost lapped. they also put the power down better. Unfortunetly the laydown motors are a lot more money to build. costs to race in europe are mega dollar due to the laydown motor, 24 heats on a motor and it needs to b rebuilt for GP competition. engines run 15K for a quality motor, everything is custom inside, custom flywheels - different weight for different type of track surfaces, cams , cam timing. only thing stock are the cases and barrel...

Love Speedway. We used to make the trip from San Diego to Costa Mesa (a lot) when I was a little kid. Good news is they still have racing there.
Never saw a rider rip up the gate as he was heading off the track to sit in the stands ... :) ... I'll watch this a couple more times...
 
Check out when you get a moment what they call Long Track in England and the Baltic States, it's done on grass. I think the tracks are like 3/8's mile or longer. OMG that would takes some serious nuggies. Big stuff, :popcorn:

most power . eg mega compression ala 15:1 and correct timing
