  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC FE 501 S

Should be same as KTM 500EXC US DS version. Mags say it's detuned a bit, but completely rideable in stock form.

So the question is...more than a KTM, less, or same price?
It's $10,099 for the 2014 EXC while 2014 FE 501 is $9399, 2014 500XC ~$8700-$8900.

If that is indicative, then white plastic is gonna cost you.

Husky's cost $50 more. Can you get a better deal on a KTM? Probably. There was short inventory for the 2014 Husky's and that helped keep the bikes going closer to MSRP.

Well my experience was just the opposite. I was able to buy the FE501 cheaper than a 500xcw and the FE has better components IMO. I expected the dealer to stick close to MSRP on the Husky due to limited inventory and deal more on the KTM but nope just the opposite. KTM even had a $1000 rebate going on and it was still higher than the FE501 deal. Made me scratch my head too but in the end I got what I wanted. Either bike can be made street legal in my state so the EXC was never an option for me since the emissions crap costs an arseload to undo and get the bike running properly and turn signals aren't required here either.

Which dealer did you purchase from?

Copy that, here in Komifornia we ain't that lucky.

No, we aren't, but you still have the choice of the already street legal 500exc or the already street legal 501s.
