• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Good attention getter, huh? So now I have you.

American................ Husqvarna .................... Motocrosser.

Hopefully this post isn't a repeat, ... I think not. That's because I don't want to know who you admired the most, liked the most, envy the most, thought was the coolest, freindliest,or handsomest. Don't care about how many moto's, races, or titles they won.

Who ever you select, may in fact have won a lot of titles .... whatever.

But I simply want your vote for the all time fastest, most gifted American motocross racer ...... that raced a Husqvarna.

Also, the candidate must have at least raced a whole season on the marquee, (or was going to if not for some problem like injury or some big Jap Co. stole them away from Husky).

And use your own judgement when factoring in the differences in bikes from different era's. You know, Rolf Tiblin didn't have the advantage of racing Brad Lackey's GP360. But if he had you think.....

Ooops, Tiblin wasn't American...well you get the idea.

Brad Lackey? Kent Howerton? Billy Grossi? Mike Hartwig? Whoever.

I can't say, really. I grew up watching Wardy, Johnson, etc. mixing it up in the '80s and '90s. I wasn't really paying attention to the Husky MX scene in the '70s. Star Wars had captured my four-year-old mind and wouldn't let go.

Can I just wimp out and say Harvey Mushman?
 
Got to go with local guy from NY, Andy Stacy. Super smooth, very flowing and watching a surgeon at work on the track. In 1981 was 13th overall and AMA Rookie of the Year. I think he owns a Kawi dealership today?

Joe, that's a great vote...I forgot his name. That's the kind of selection I'd like to see...a name maybe not everyone remembers...or even knew of. A good example of just plain natural talent. Coulda maybe been a Lackey , right time/ right place.

The photo down in the bottom of "Screw You" is nice ... (re-named Gravity Cavity to be "softer"). Did you take it?

If Husky's to make a comeback in motocross, how better than to use it's historic roots as a base to push from. Gotta know your roots. Look at KTM's domestic motocross history. Surely they envy Husky's history.... wish they could highlight some domestic motocross stardom.

Did John Desoto race Husky's? Hawaiian's are American.

Well since most of the Really fast guys are from Canada and you want the rider to be from America (US) ... I'll keep my opinion to myself.:D

The thing is that even when Husky was on top of the world they weren't necessarily unchallenged for the domestic MX crown. That means that we have a fairly small pool to choose from so I guess I will have to go with Brad Lackey also. There were however many legendary riders both in the desert and on the enduro circuit.:thumbsup:

Now that there is a quality vote.... I mean world champion and all. He must have had a tremendous amount of determination to overcome the difficulties he faced. First, facing the very best riders... and then being in a totally foreign environment for the duration of the series. I wish he would write/publish his memoirs.... anyone know if he has????

The hope is this thread might bring forth racers who wern't often in the limelight. If someone knew a hell of a talented racer ..... a motocross "Husky Hero's" that wasn't a houshold names give him a vote. :)

mentioning one of the greatest Husky riders of all time. Malcolm Smith.
 
Didn't Dick Burlesson start out in motocross & win a championship? Was he on a Husky? If so, he has my vote.

How well do you know him? If you see him anytime soon, tell him to sit down and write what he does remember...he-he. Maybe he can make a little money off it.
I mean really, he is the only US citizen to be crowned 500 class World Champion, right? He doesn't make light of it himself does he?

I'm pretty sure D.B. won a National Motocross title ... and was on a Husky ..... of course. Of course that was wayyy back at the emergence of motocross on this continent.... but still.

And so, thats a great vote. ( I thought long and hard about that one myself).

Out of respect for Malcolm, your infraction will be overlooked .... and man, I'm not gonna argue with you on your point. M.S. is an icon. It'd be cool just to be able to say, "I rode with him once". Lucky west coast creaps. :D
 
Yes Dick Burleson was pretty good......and he did start with MX


Brad Lackey for sure.....what about Chuck Sun or Arlo Englund... both AMA winners.....

If I remember correctly...Arlo Englund won an event on an 360 Auto....????
