  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Extra fuel range for your 449/511

I took mine out this past weekend, I took some pretty hard falls and the tank stayed put and gave me no issues at all. I couldn't even tell it was there. It also was able to supply every last drop of fuel, I was somewhat surprised some fuel didn't get stuck in the 'wings'.

Nice, thanks.

Looks good, maybe a small tail rack and a 1.5 gallon jerry can will do the same for a bit less and the rack will serve more purposes on an enduro ride. Anyone find a nice tail rack?
I have worked with a low profile tail rack on my 511, Carry-on MRS cans and a few other not so good ideas. Sometimes you have to do what is needed to get the long ride in :D
The Tail rack with a gas can atop of the rack really limits your ability to swing your leg on the bike. I would check how your leg is positioned when get on or off the bike. What if you were on an Off Camber hill trying to get off the bike? I would like to see more rider reports from users after a dual sport rides! The Nomad seems very low to the fender and provides an easy transfer of fuel to the main tank. Excited to hear more reports

I did hit it once with my leg on a get-off that I probably could have prevented if the tank wasent there, but it was a super-slow-speed-deep pine needle loss of balance. And without the tank to begin with, I couldnt have made it to where I wanted to go. Id say there is a chance of hitting this tank, especially when getting on the bike if you a smaller person, it sure works good for me though.

Good point. I'll be riding upstate NY this weekend, I'll have to check on the leg over swing and see how it might interfere being I'm not 7' tall. Thanks

WOW!
I try not to be negative. But those are some of the ugliest tanks I have ever seen.
Think I will stick with my MSR bottles.
Where do you put MSR bottles? I was looking at a luggage rack but after a few bottles and the rack it would be like $130 for 40oz of Gas.

I couldn't find a rack for the TE511 that I like. So its off to get a small back pack. Not my first choice.

Are we having a fashion show, or finding a solution for more fuel range?

that's what I was thinking. Also lots of aftermarket tanks look horrible and fark up the ergonomics of your bike. I would rather run this tank (that i did not even notice) than pack gas on my back any day. Quick removal for when you don't need it. Perfect fro my needs.

My Vote is leaning towards Nomad Tank  I have no experience with this tank to date.

My 2 cents... Each time I have put fuel in a backpack All I can think about is what if the cans leak and run down my A.. 50 miles in the middle of desert, I would be the guy standing on the side of the trail .....

As long as the nomad seals good, gets me the 110 miles needed for most dual sport fuel stops, Easy to remove when extended range is not needed and painless to swing you leg on the bike.. tank is tucked out of the way, Nomad tank seems to be my vote.

For those needing extended range, like the big sloshy tank Feel or 200+ miles is a must then have Zip Ty install the Safari tank giving the total of 5.7 gallons on a 449 or 511! Keep in mind No easy way of undoing the safari tank.

Well, you present a valid point, not a fashion show, but more practicality. I do like the option of a small sturdy tail rack for more versatility though. How much does the 3 or 4 liter Nomad tank cost?

I like this tank but I am thinking of ways to carry small amounts of gear as well. MSR bottles with a luggage rack would work but this and a backpack may work better....

I made a rack for my 449 and I also use a backpack.
The hardest thing making the rack was the mounting system. Whew! it took longer to build the frame mounts than it took to make my skidplate and rack. but in the end it looks clean. Now I just bought the 2012 version of the rear fender and will have to make new mounts to work with that.
I am also working on making a spare tank that will mount on the opposite side of the silencer.

Wow, thats great. Can you post a picture of the rack you created? It would be nice to see your handy work.
