  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Extra fuel range for your 449/511

So it looks like I am now the importer for these. :p He is sending me a batch of tanks to see about moving. Should be interesting. If anyone is 80% or more sure they want one of these let me know ASAP and I'll make sure there is inventory for that in this first shipment.

the 449/511 tank should be about $200 (might do deals for less to get them rolling) plus shipping from me to you (about $15) and is 3 liters (.79 gallons). There is also a 5 (1.3 gallon) and 8 liter (2.1 gallon / hangs down one side) 449/511 tank in development.

Let me know if anyone wants anything off his site now and I'll get it coming.

thanks
Kelly

Yes, the small one seems like nice insurance for longer rides....although I saw a guy do a 50 mile loop at the China Hat ISDE on a TXC511 so the range isnt a big deal in most cases.

Pencil me in for the 3 liter

Does the fuel seem to drop out of the tank well ? And if you could , measure the length of the bungie .... You can get really good ones at trucking supply stores in all sizes, last for years

I think McKay might ride Dusy Ershim in august and since he is a notch above begining trail rider might be a good test for the tank ..... He should have many falls ! Ha ha I havn't seen his whole line but I am sure if the price is right on the tanks you will sell them.... $150 to the door !

Gee thanks, at least I will have the air rescue helicopter at the ready!

great input guys, thanks. Will get 3-4 of the 449/511 tanks comeing in the first batch and some extra caps and cords.

I feeds fine, the hose they included is not the right size to mount to the tank vent though, 3/16 inch works great and doesnt need a clamp. There is some fuel trapped in its "wings" but its minor and most of it gets put to use during the sloshing around while riding.

The bungys they sent are made in the USA (LOL) but they appear to be natural rubber and very robust, they have a funky end that goes on the 'Y' mount. I havent seen anything like these here.

He sent me a black one to test on my 511 for the AMA Blackdog event in Hoodriver Or this June 9th -10th. He is also sending a pile of other ones and i asked him to include 3-4 449/511 tanks based on this post. He seems like a real good guy, very responsive and aggressive business wise. Good stuff. He sent me a picture of a Dakar bike he is building with 37 liters of fuel (9.7 gallons) and integrated tool boxes etc. (see top of side panels) Pretty cool stuff.

Speaking of the Black Dog.... do any of them look like a good fit for the 250/310 Xlites? Otherwise I will be packing a couple MSR bottles for insurance on my TE250.

Maybe but will not be here in time for that. I will be getting a sample of each and will head to Bills with them and see what fits what well.

Tank 3 looks like it would fit almost anything (1.5 gallon)...

WOW!
I try not to be negative. But those are some of the ugliest tanks I have ever seen.
Think I will stick with my MSR bottles.

I got the black one for my TE511. I really like it. Very low profile and much smaller than i thought it might be. Looks to be very good quality too. Will get hundreds of miles of testing at this weekends AMA husky sponsored Blackdog event.

- Will post pix soon on and off the bike.
